Daytime breeze
The curtains sway
Above Yoshiwara
The sky turns blue
The lights of night
Have yet to come
Today
The town is quiet
Yoshiwara
Yoshiwara
Under the daytime sky
So blue
So high
Yet nowhere
I can go
Yoshiwara
Yoshiwara
In the daytime breeze
I smile
As I'm supposed to
But my heart
Is far away
I let down my hair
And slowly
Draw the comb through
I haven't even
Painted my lips
Red yet
Out in the courtyard
I hear the water
Daytime is the only world
Where night
Doesn't come
When I smile
People feel at ease
When I fall silent
The wind
Whispers to me
Is the world outside
As wide
As they say?
I still
Wouldn't know
Walls so high
Sky so wide
Still I cannot see
The distant town
Night may be
My stage to walk
But this quiet afternoon
Sinks deep
Into my heart
A smiling face
May be part
Of the trade
But what lies in my heart
Is not for sale
There are days
When I think
Letting myself fall
Would be easier
But today
I still haven't
Painted my lips red
Yoshiwara
Yoshiwara
Under the daytime sky
So blue
So high
Yet nowhere
I can go
Yoshiwara
Yoshiwara
In the daytime breeze
I smile
As I'm supposed to
But my heart
Is far away
Inside the mirror
A face remains
Somewhere beneath it
There's still
A village girl
They call my name
But I don't turn around
I simply sit
In the daylight
Of Yoshiwara
I don't know
If tomorrow will come
But tonight
Will surely come again
I tell myself
I have chosen
To live strong
And still—
Somewhere inside
The wish to fall
Hasn't left me
Yoshiwara
Yoshiwara
Under the daytime sky
So blue
So high
Yet nowhere
I can go
Yoshiwara
Yoshiwara
In the daytime breeze
I smile
As I'm supposed to
But my heart
Is far away
A little while longer
Before I paint
My lips red
Until then
I'll stay here
And watch
The sky
