i use to sit in my bed alone, wonder and dream
the thunder would make me ponder if i was under a scheme
bc something would seem like it was chasing and pursuing me
seeing a separate pair of footprints like it was two of me
embrace the thing that ruined me, confront it and fight
i was under my fright, like a reindeer stuck in the lights
but i had to jump in the fight, puff my chest against the suffering
clear my head and adjust my mental clustering
all this stuff would bring a rude awakening
it’s new the place i’m being taken it’s taking my youth away from me
tryna win the game of life, but for that you have to pay a price
that i can’t afford so i’ll just make it right
by taking mics rapping until my hearts content
and that right there is worth more then any of the cars you rent
i used to wish upon a star til that star burned out
so now i complain to a mic until my heart turns out
now im growing up
now im growing up
now i’m old enough to deal with the older stuff and ain’t nobody slowing us
and i was young once
yea i was young once
i was a young gun but look where i’ve come from ain’t nothing for me to run from
i used to sit at my desk alone late in the night putting my fate in the mic, so the pain wouldn’t fight
but now im much grown, and ive matured past my child’s plays
and imma do this no matter what the 50 percentile say
no matter what my friends, teachers, or peers say
i see no other way for me to put this stuff away
much has changed, but one thing hasn’t
you could try to kill but can’t take from me passion
see i used to go and cypher down in Atlanta
it was the Soul Food Cypher reminded me of Scribbal Jam
it would make me realizes what my purpose was and that purpose wasn’t something for a little man
i had to grow, mature from the silly little hopes
i’m not saying im perfect, im just saying im really close
i had the learn the ropes, and change the my ways and adopt
a new style so i wouldnt sink but i’d be staying atop
now im growing up
now im growing up
now i’m old enough to deal with the older stuff and ain’t nobody slowing us
and i was young once
yea i was young once
i was a young gun but look where i’ve come from ain’t nothing for me to run from
everybody has to grow, but what shows true maturity is when u embrace it as soon as you know
and don’t let yourself go insane
see comfort is what’ll hurt you, true virtue is inside the pain
now i could spit a million bars about being the best
but that’ll keep hidden what you can’t see in the flesh
and what you see in the spirit, see i need you to hear this rhyme
success isn’t just someone you meet in the clearest times
sometimes you fear the signs, and run when you hear the call
but what you thought was fear was just laziness not fear at all
you can’t steer it all, you can’t control everything
grow into the unknown to unlock every dream
fight your worst fears don’t get stuck and attached
or your just a ball falling waiting for someone to catch
but this is real life and sadly nobody can help
just grow into the skin you need to do it yourself
now im growing up
now im growing up
now i’m old enough to deal with the older stuff and ain’t nobody slowing us
and i was young once
yea i was young once
i was a young gun but look where i’ve come from ain’t nothing for me to run from
what i’m saying may seem obvious
but if it’s obvious i really don’t know what’s stopping us
what’s stopping us from growing into what God’s got for us
if it’s obvious than i don’t know what the problem is
bc what is life beyond a blink
a day seems short but life’s shorter than whatchu think
why waste your life with money and finite things
bc when you die ur soul is the only thing u can bring
