Autumn rests low on Sayram
Crowds line the shore I look away
They lift phones toward the view
Snap blue water sky and smiles too
Lock the bright lake inside a frame
Then turn and leave no pause to name
Some call the Atlantic tear
Some speak old Kazakh wishes clear
I stand apart from all the noise
Wind carries every voice off
The blue sky hangs so heavy now
Swallows each word we might allow
Part lips
And say nothing at all
There it stays quiet and slow
Seventy million years alone
Beyond the stories people bring
Just out of reach of everything
Wind bows grass to the ground
Light shimmers on waters crown
I kneel and touch cooling tide
It never speaks it never hides
Riders drift along shore
Sheep rest like scattered stone
Shadows linger time stands still
All thoughts drift away
The blue sky hangs so heavy now
Swallows each word we might allow
Part lips
And say nothing at all
There it stays quiet and slow
Seventy million years alone
Beyond the stories people bring
Just out of reach of everything
Im only passing through this place
Pretending I belong in space
Wind tangles hair across eyes
I watch the lake shift three colors as time slips by
There it stays quiet and slow
Seventy million years alone
Beyond the stories people bring
Just out of reach of everything
Wind rolls past All is quiet
