The Night He Tarried (Gethsemane 1) - Ajoracle
Lyrics by:Diana O Morris
Composed by:Diana O Morris
It was a night
No voices were raised
Heaven was quiet and hell was watching
Hmmmm mm mm
Hmmmmmmm yeah
In the dark
Of the garden of Gethsemane
He fell beneath the weight
Not of nails not of thorns
But of what love would take
He turned to those beside him
The ones who walked so near
But sleep had closed their eyes that night
They could not enter here
No voice to say stay strong
No hand to hold the pain
The place where God was leading him
No man could ever stand
And it was a silent war
No sword no shout no flame
Heaven held it's breath that night
And waited on his name
Would he drink the cup or turn away?
Would he stay or walk
In the silence between heaven and hell
The son of God was called
Dear father
Dear father
Take this cup from me
Dear father
Dear father
Baaa yeah yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah
But if I must drink it then hold me
Hold me in this night
His body felt the pressure
His sweat fell down like blood
The weight of all humanity
Came crashing like a flood
No 'cross upon his shoulders yet
No blood upon the ground
But something in that hidden place
Was breaking without a sound
Father if it is possible
Let this pass from me
But silence was the answer still
To the one who came to save
It was a silent war
And hell had made it's claim
If he will hang upon that tree
The curse will take his name
Would he fall beneath the weight?
Would he turn away in fear?
In the silence between heaven and hell
The end was drawing near
They were sleeping while he was yielding
They were resting while he was breaking
Alone but not abandoned
Before the 'cross he agreed
Before the nails he yielded
Not my will but yours be done
It was a silent war
And hell was standing near
If he will take that cursed place
Then judgment will be clear
But they did not understand
The curse they waited for
Was not his condemnation
It was their undoing
There was a night
When no one stood beside him
And still he did not stand alone
Because before the 'cross was lifted
The lamb had already yielded
