But also trying to understand what is the long term impact

Don't stop at one time off effort

If we're making the real impact

Welcome to the sce e up by weekly video series

Hi there i'm jerry who the host for the show

I'm a people

When it comes to skating startups from from mprancisco to beijing

Tokyo

Ssychoia capital and many more from around on the globe will be diving deep into topics

Surrounding inteland strategies

The future of work and the remarkable stories that have led them to the pinnck of success

祖们

My guess this week is fanasasa luu

Faneca has been in the human resources viewed for over it decade and its currently d head of hr at google taiwan

Fanassa's journey has been anything but conventional she began as a news editor for a tv station

Then transition to the finance sector working with renowned banks like a sanor chartered after completing her graduate studies in the us

She found her calling in hr

Where she has arrived for the ast decade growing up in a conservative taiwane society

Venessa attributes much of her success to her outspoke er personality and witnesness to take risks

During this interof we didied into the tlla landscape in taiwan

As well as the unique challenges and opportunities gain the market

We also excored the nesus experiences

Ces helhelping company's scale discussing the lessons

She learned along the way lastly we touched upon her inspiring jneney and secret ingredients that contributed to her success

So yeah

Particularly as a subject matter expert rate in this skating journey at that i don't know like you feel

And then you learn quickly out of it

Yeah

Yeah

I can think of one thing that just happened

And that really recently to the thing that i've been talking about you know fail fast

But also i think something that will come into the whole you know like uh thinking process is the the nature impulse to pursue perfection

A perfectionism like what one 美right

There's always a perfect process

There's always a perfect answer

But actually there's no

There's nothing like perfect

So one example is um is well well i guess uh one thing that we trying to build um out of many many many in you know employer is how can we try to build a platform for under representative trouops for example um ababilities uh er represender um you know um uh you know like type or uh anything right so that's intention

But sometimes you know when we think of that's a program

That's a you know project

Uh we think about okay

Probably we can design something perfect

And being it become you know problem soofved right so that's what we call perfect answer right but something that i learuh front out of you know my

My previous um couple es years

But that's in in in the very beginning

I can see the one example is we try to build something that can really sustainably grow talent with disability

Ah that uh really you know lake have their future in the corporate

They have their future uh to get employed

And that's the attention

And there is a quick fix

That we try to start with like a couple years ago uh we

We think yeah

Holly we can start by you know like a couthan

Some of them as you know like uum associate

So then they can sply by sidework with you know a couple of teams

And then we will say hey

Let's you know a coucouum you know once

Then we assess if they can or not

And that's the fix right

And that's also you know something sounds like um know know perfect answer

Then we just esual keep ongoing

And that's where you know along the way that i feel first of all we don't think about long term

We don't think we don't major incremental progress

We just feel lake okay

There is a structure

There's a group up you know like telling with a disability

There's a group of you

You know like um host with good intention

So we

We kind of pear them up

And then being things kind

Kind of sved

But

But actually 好的

好的

Something need to be there right they

So that the ecosystem is right for example um if we don't really come in to provide advice to for example tell them with the disability

They may uh encounter um some difficulties in turnso something very simple for example uh dicommodation right if they are writing their wheer into the you know office

They may encounter something

They if they don't feel safe to speak up the end you know talk about something they need uwe we fail

We basically just fail

Because they cannot learn

They won't ask for basic how they uh we can expect them to ask important question to learn

Right so um that's the psychological safety we need to provide intentionally

And i think that's a very important thing to learn

And also right if we're just you know like do something like one time off

We don't do multiple ear strategy

We don't build the environment for people to feel safe

Then how can we call it a success

So i gueguess that's not something like uher you know feel like a big failuure

But it basically start with um a starting point that you know like uh when my company's name is kind of been naming uh in the newspaper by the government

And say we need to do more because um

Those talents um probpping doesn't refeel you know they are um given you know sufficient resources and support um we when our names are people of there um i think you know we basically can choose as an employer

We can choose you know eat a fight or flight or feace right um

But we did we decide to you know take the feedback and really communicate with um you know talents with a disability and teams around them to understand you know what's missing

And um what is is the success look like for you right not for employer at all

So um i think we

We learn from that kind of incident

But um i definitely want to keep on going

And say you know always start with something uh with good intention um

But also trying to understand what is the long term impact

Don't stop at one time off effort

And say hey um you know like we're 're gone

And this problems of trying to track um you know incremental process

And trying to track um

If you're making the real impact

The kind of the

The common you know challenges for them particularly in taiwan

I think that's supreme

You know the question that really keep me um energized every day um super per sionate ate sosolving problem right um super curious so um guess the chanchanhere is first possiall um in fact taiwan is bigger than we imagine um

That's the fact um however we're not acknowledge uh the impact we can make uh in scale able way i mean uh it's only you know one or two or you know uh uh a couple of you leaders who are really believe in that and being advocate enough for the fact um

So we're not uh confident enough

I would say to say something that's that already a built in the country for example something that we actually have as a competitive advantage is first of all uh tiwent such such a place to grow pack um you all like either your starups

Either your like have some brilliant idea about tech uh because this we have a unionic very natural uh ecosystem uh in tawan uh h no matter is howare is oftwreare supply chain we have basically everything you need infrastructure

So that you can build your your your tech technology out of this place

So that's an ecosystem that we already have

And we also have another you know like a advantage is the talents right uh the education level is so high

Here uh we also you know like so embrace uh the steam so have know know um um you know education background

Yes you have a very deep

And so you know like wide range of technology talents uh in the island

So we have our you know natural kinder

You know like a village of talents here and the third is the geographically um position in in asia right we're pretty much

The center if you look at the map

Right we

When we zoom out taiwis pretty much set in the the right of the whole asia pacific

Right so we are very

It's only you know three to five hours

Right so you want to fly from taiwan

If so say you all wear south korea or to australia or to in or india

It's just strange five hours

Where in the center of everything so basically

The fact is they are already you know fourteen subsii cable cut across taiwan

Need to go through taiwan

Ah that's showing up you know why

Because we're just the center right

And it's so critically important

Um to especially infrastructure um you know like build up in the asia

So we have our competitive advantage is just is it's not building our the nna to set it out lot

And we don't know how to you know and went to or sometimes just hesitate to say it out lot

W because say say we will 比较谦虚

Is it

It's way too humble a little bit

And we always feel like we we

We probably are not there yet

Or we probably ulow low thetheteam yeah

Not that impossised syndhou yeah

Collectively unfortunately two years ago yeah

When i say well taian is the you know jaw

Ah that still you know like bear in the sea

Nobody as we see it

But you know in the next five to ten years

Because we definitely need shshine

And we will shy

Because i think generation changed right and the environment changed taiwan is no longer uh you know uh uh a generation of leaders

Who just encourage people to know it

All we start to me to you know step up

And you know say hey here is the opportunity

We do have a uh assets

Here right just like i call out a because talents and ecosystem

And you know our

Our jeogravedly in opposition

So all this are here so we are calling people coming back home

Right if you're talents and you

You feel like here is opportunity just come back

And also right like um sort out a invitation to all the international talents

Um h always like like recognize and see the opportunity

You feel like unseeing

Or you don't know now is the best timing to come to the place

And probably before everybody come in and taiwan become too crowded it don't

Don't i see

See the opportunity right here to hear the key

Take wawae for me

Good intention doesn't necessary translate into good impact

We need long term thinking systematic design when initiating projects from good intenons always be ready

To fail it's scary to tap into unknown

But failure is just part of life

The important lesson here is to fail fast and learn fast
