Not The Life I Dreamed
I used to paint the skies so blue
A world where every wish came true
A house of light, a hand to hold
A love that never would grow cold
I dreamed of mornings kissed by peace
Of silent nights where doubts would cease
A story written soft and kind
With nothing lost and all aligned
But this is not the life I dreamed It’s not as perfect as it seemed
The colors faded, hope ran dry
No answers falling from the sky I walked through doors
I thought were mine
But found just echoes left behind
Still chasing what I once believed
But this is not the life I dreamed
I thought that joy would come with time
That effort always meant the climb
But some roads end before they rise
And truth can wear a sweet disguise
I tried to laugh, I learned to cope
But sometimes love just steals your hope
And even stars can lose their light
When shadows stretch into the night
Cause this is not the life
I dreamed It’s not as golden as it seemed
The songs I sang now sound like lies
Reflections fade before my eyes
I built a future on thin air
But found there’s nothing waiting there
Still holding on to what I need
But this is not the life I dreamed
Maybe someday I’ll understand
Why joy slipped right out of my hands
Maybe pain was meant to show
The parts of me I didn’t know
Still, this is not the life I planned
But I’m still here, I’m still a man
With broken hopes and quiet scars
Still counting dreams among the stars
And though the road is not so kind
I’ll keep on walking, I won’t hide
Cause somewhere deep inside of me
Still lives the boy who dared to dream
