Hello

Everyone

Welcome to dance chat

Today we have e skills with us say hiry what up what up

No can you do a quick self intro

So yeah

My name to to lager um ake skills

Um jersey coordinamonerories and jersey um travelled world gance in thirteen years into it all styles

House jerseicgloe ipop contemporary

You name it

But yeah i so pretty much

A bit of background on myself

I do do pptotography directing

Creative direction as a performance artist and just dance

And uh yes it's happhappy to here you um thirteen years

So when did you first start dancing

And what style did you first happen to dance

Well let me

Let me take my math actually preto ter mamatic like i love saying like thirteen fourteen years well like what i started at twelve years old

No action calling with a finger

That's crazy

Wow

Like wewe on on i like like sixyears

So i'm twenty eight

Now says like it's fourteen eighteen years so so you started at twelve

I started twtwelve a twelve years old

And now you're twenty eight

Eight right so that's sixteen years

So sixteen years years oso i'm going old guys

Yeah Yeah

So sixteen

I think i like to use thirteen ger

Because i ybe feel feel ounounger

Yes sixteen years

So when did you like i twelve

What happened

How did you first started so ii ansome martial arts

So i thc arari and martial arts was like you can move your body and i was was like well i can move my body and as a art to it so um i wasn't the kid that like started dancing

Even though my family does that um i did painting and finerarits drawing

Always they like illustrations

Always wanted be long comic book

I was like mire childhood dream like always wanted to do like a mango and like comic books

So always i grew up just drawing and something out

And then like my dad got

Got into

Into a idi

Because you know was souof fence ence

Because he was been just so um

Because i was never was the sports kid does my mother oso so he just got me into like my moancts

And then from there i just kind of was like well i can move my body now

And And i

I'm not afraid of like showing you what i can move my body

And i guess the danch gene just kicked in

And i like my family already dances

And then i was just like well let me start dancing in secret

Because i don't want my family to know that i maactually like dancing

So then i was like watched them dup step animation popping videos

And was like well this was no watthere this this history

So you learned by yourself kind of

Even you are from a dance ban

Yeah

I learned by myself at least

At least

You could say like again like the popping ask

Because the first first yle was like popping

Oh

Really and like animation

So like i was like ii about your youtube videcers

Because i was like something i just did

Did for like fun catching beats

Um a lot of my early like like h dance friends like no about that stuff

And then not like over time

I just kind of just started to

To like

Like known as like the dance kid

Like i want ent to like art high school

Oh

Um fordrawing and like um finarts

But like people in the side and like ashhme like dunch time

Like

Like would like you skills like dlike kids

Like he know that to break it down

And like i did that

And i like put that dit's like jersey club pretty much

And then like from there

People just know me as like the kid that dancers

And then my family found out after that well found out after that well a little it don't of can you like give a background information on your family

Illike like what sounls they do

And like well you say there a dance family

Like that so like like my father's side as definitely the dancers um there of corript

There antiders sort of of perbian decisaid um my father is like four brothers

So it's like um the oldest was our late ungole gregy past as the oldest is our uncle warn

That's the oldest brother um third oldest is my father

And the youngest is uh terry terrry cardes on seabol um and seebol was the one that like like took the ance

Ance how sing to like the next next level

Ah actually started off as a breaker

Yeah Yeah

Yetually started off as brebreaker before inded house um

This is like rununning joke for ininsiders like brebreakers become house dancers

When they get older 对不对

Because i go running joke like i've heard that before um

But yet i was pretty masant what it was um my father and the older brothers obviously like they wanted to glow

And he stnot ted him him and to like dance

Because they why went to dance

And is my mamainhouse

But

But i always say like clubing house hip hop is all in the same

Yeah like generation

When it comes to that um

But yeah just dance in general my mom side of family

That's like

Like that's like jazit's like that's house as well um

But it's like jazz

We'd call that it's not watching like the black version escaed swing

I'm my swing

You can say like swing um daily naname escapes me

But it is like of a social dance

But you can say like this disco role bound says i roll is skating

That's like my mom's side be much both sides

Both sizes

Dands

So so are they both like professional answers like the're doing this for a living

Or are they are kind of just into it

And then have like a normal like good

There was just always just hohouseheads

Disco heads on my uncle

Uncle terry

He's um seebobel that's the one

I actually like took it to the next level

And actually was like i'm going to travel l world

And knew this like for refreil

And actually just carries the torture of like

Like actually dancing

So i think that's always was this like around to just have that i mean growing up

I never really saw him as much

Because he lived in japan for about like it he this here um

But when he definitely

When he came back as like around as i

When he was just like so nephew you dad so i'm like i mean

I do so you well

When did he come back

I think so like i did he i do

好的好的 你

你的你的

I'll go by arenness

I don't know when you back back

You came back like they came back like twenty

Twenty

Twenty and ii twenty twelve with some my goum

But yeah

He came back like a while ago

About it like twtwenty ve teen of like that time

It's like you've albeen already been dancing for like a bit

For a bit

Yeah

For a bit

A it

It still

Still like mainly art dancing bit

对对

I think after i got at a high school

That's one i was kind of doing like more performance art

This suffered that um just being like known to do movement

And like already being like curated with like a lot of like different ararst um outside of just being like dancers

It was easy for me

And i saw my own to just find myself in more artitic performance are in like we've got to open my spaces

And then i was just like the only danser of those like performing

And then that's how i've got to name him made a name for myself

Especially like in my hometown

Like north

That's like the art space

That's how i got to made my connections

And yeah

Does that i yes in college

Did you do any like a dance major or is it more of what what your degree

Well i guree so i never really went a college um i started college

But i didn't really finish um

But i definitely was going to go into college for like computer technology uh okay well so i was something completely different so but yeah like i think i'd just continue the career of just like uh performing um but building like just continany presme me

My

My so so free styling and

And ii arted to teaching which is like jersey club right so so when did you get into jersey club

I guess first first from you started with taling right so there is a styen jersey

Like jersey club of like is like popping esk or popping a jact caught pop lock in um sying for d just like locking your popping in place is a niche approach to like popping and like animation

I was only done to jersey club music um

Um is not done as much um anymore

But definitely like when i came into dancing

As as what as i was a kid

Jersey club is like a cultural dair

That's sorry always like pretty much something that everybody just cut it us um

And is as long as i've been alive like that's just fit around

You know um

But when i first started dancing polock

And was the first like i guess free style approach to like my dance

And i just danced the jersey club music

But i also a lot of music

If that makes me ssense um and then over time

I just got closer and closer with like the jersey club dance community um

Um outsign of it just being like we're all from jersey

We all do these dances um

And then yeah

A lot of things is shifted from that point on

You know that's about that well i guess um there's a lot of the listeners might not no much about jersey cluclub musisic or the style

Can you like give a bit of a intishow

So jersey club music is a journal um under the umbrella of house in more specifically um in attachment to bottomore club music

Bottom more club music is our brid brother style and sound the first cake of that boom boom boom boom boom bone kind of like electronic gance music it's always been around

Since the early nineties um at least as far as like the house culture that existed in jersey

And then became more um you can say influenced by the bottomore club cake

Which is why just mentioned earlier um let adjs from like jersey came down and pioneer their own sound out of the bottomore club cake

嗯嗯

And then came back up to jersey

And made jersey club music

This is not from botmore club music is are not from botimore

And y're from jersey

It became jersey club musisic

Before it was called um jersey club music

It was called brick city music

And brick city is a nickname for north new jersey

So the only time you would get i guess a jersey club like demo and like only like like rosic and jersey y they live in north new jersey

So those day dozzseback in the times you burn cities

And you would get like bulsey um like bulay tracks makes with like like muacks makes like like like botmore more club jacks and in people

Which just kind of like rotate cities and things from that

From that time period on

And like as like facebook grew

And as like social medio grew

Just like two thousand and two dozen

I um just more of like

Like i guess you could say like a ethos of like music was kind of like spread among jersey

And like like the rest of ststjust just ararperiod on producers to start ted making the sound as well

And then the whole state just kind of did that sound but yeah bricks city music to jersey

Clumumusic

It's i'm wanna say fast

But it it it is it

It is it a static of like faster

You can say faster uh electronic dance music um

And there's a culture as attach to it that's like rich in its history and as a lot of size to house

So you i guess wanted the style

First like so the music preexists the dance

I was you so like how do people find out how to dance to music c fast so it was like um glad d of underground parties

I'was saying there's um

There are different errors

Different dancers

And this is

This is all light

He said she said

Stuff

So when i say dates this is like relatively the most general argust like popular opinion amongst all everybody offses like experience of saying this was the year or time that this would i really start to see xyz pop off um

I so it took us of seven

When it's kind of like the year

Where you start seeing a lot of like social dances

That kind of make sensense to um jersey club debt

There wasn't much of like freestyle

Because is like a party style

But our base of like haddaned jersey club music was very like much collar response

Think cupid uffle charch a slide type of deal

Where like the um

The dj um we liked up their voice over a jysical track

And then it was like two susiter left and irreguals two seps ter left two sebsir right and arrelals two subsir right

And then like i'll call out this name of the dance

And then you do that dance

And then from there everybody like parties from that

Now i start to say that every single track was like that

But like definitely the most popular ones

And like how you learn to dancer jersey club music will be through those adams

Um popular dance is like routine

I know it was a parcularar

It was already out um cgot it d making um money hut came later

Padty icate came lalater

There's a lot lot like um culture momes that kind kind pioneeer

People to be like when you do jersey club

You're supposed to do those moves

Um um

And then you know just overtime more parties

More events

More places

More people just keep doing inventing more dances and anthoms

Until you just get this whole like plethoro and like spread of

Like all these dances you can pick from

And then people just started free selling ing offer those things

Yep

I guess like when you say it's not a free style

Style emorcial clubs

And what's the difference between bg s

It's like i guess um for house hip hop all the other styles like which category do they belong to

And like what's the difference

So and i'm pretty sure like old gees can probably it this question a way better than mean

But my

My understanding of clubbing a cluestyle and or a free style

Like dance style is that in that specific cultures

Dance and freestyle um they have their own like structure and like approach to like doing the dance

And when you go out

I guess in that generation

You go out

Clubbout they

You just going

Going to clucluand just just having fun like it's is more about your background of dance being

Being main expression

Ance win your party

Um so let's say we

We do two different styles

But we go to the club together

Um how you just have fun

And how you just express yourself like there

There might be

There might be social dances

That everybody in a club knows to do

Um and then you mix in your dis

You know whatever your background of dances

Um within those dances

And

And like you're going

Going up ancyouyoujust just ving ving fun

Um eery cluclubsinsays jjery cluclub style um essay like aa club style um is because it's just that like jersey has a big history with this expression

Um and then those dances are just how you conduct yourself in the club

Um especially with the anoms ms that cocide with those things

Um and you know whatever background of danance if you're are actual dances

Um you would those dancers

And then you a freeyle le little bit

Yeah

But you're like doing it to have fun

You not doing it to like curate a space of like like or all dancers is it like jersey club was for like everybody

It's still is for everybody

Um but it did shift into more jersey free style

Um that's the actual style of like the actual freestyle aspect of like jersey club dancing

Um but we'even got to that point

Um but it just clubbing

It was just clubbbut

But jjersecluclumusic

Um maplayum it makes kes sense

Um just like how back

Then there was clubbing

But that jersey was plaplaed mamaly um and as it 的开始um

What we talk

You say that you have like you get so many different cells right so you you get closer and closer to jersey club like um how come that you also are interested in contemporary

And like i feel like most street answers don't really do those like i feel like contemporary value modern um or lyrical they i feel are in the same branch of trees

And then i feel like trets seseparate world a little bit um

How do i even get it into that

I think because i say you hadidn't really given it that much thought i did do contemporary dance for about i two years like a little bit

There's a dance programcle axo in new jersey um

And was like a competition that i won

And i got the opportunity to work in the summertime

And would flake a lot of contempordanances theatre um

I got to work with um tap dance legend a saving young lover who does tap dance

And i got to

I just know many um contemporary ballet dances as well and i just trained and studied and asked uh how would i go about that and knew that

And just that was like just kind like aa weird

Like i want to say weird

But that was kind like a syde quest for me

I've always been a fan of alvali um dance academy um as a kid always look at badly and jazz

Jazz

Ets street jazz and all the times of stuff broadway was like a big thing for me

Kis mamom

Shelike was big in like dance

He's actually was a singer and comedium wow um

When she was back in her young it days and ouum

When she just shome me lot lot things like like nicholish brothers um fed to stare different dances like that

That was outoutside of street dance

Those more like jazz and like bali and like a tap

When i was like seven years old

I was like feel like only like a bit

But like we did like tap dds me

My sister did like tap dancing or like the year

Think think think

So that was like also a start of me like dancing i guess

And i guess i just never left me so yeah

That's that and like i think while i was aware of like street dance because of my fatherside side

I think i always like dived into jazz and contebrary from my like moomside

And i gota just bring that together with jersey clolow

Wow

That this makes sense to me

Because you've done so many different styles

Like i guess what what are the commonalities in all these styles and like like how they all like coinsine

Like how they all yeah all like how do they all make sense on to you or or on your physical structure

Because i feel like you know at least in today's world dse world does is kind of segregator

Where people like do their styles

And you know value

People just do valy and and carrio

People only do carrio and like yep

But since you've been around different types of dance and movements

Like what's your viewpoint on like different thousand

How to gain a more generic understanding of like all the thousand instead of just diving deep in the one i guess very later question

I like it though i guess

Whether i start

I think i guess we could start with like my love of movement

Movement a't isn't just particularly like structured two dance um a lot of

Like a lot of when i see art to be done is to performance art

Because i've lots ted a lot of art performances and just that in it of itself is like movement too

When i was i studying

When i was i studying like consimpberary um there's a lot of

There's a lot of subjects

That protein not too like foundational dance moves like how street dance

Does what it pertains more things that i can actually line shapes

That's an acactually like studied art form

That if you used to draw an on paper

That's i can actually like techneyes

It's acactually tually like

Like ananary

Yeah

Ah actually tually way yeah

Yeah

Posture yeah

Policement in all those if it sides of things

And i think that like that vocabulary is just a you can so to say like universal kind of like language amounts

Like combining

Like street styles

And you can say like consimporary um

Even though i guess like the approach is completely different

These conversations is kind of what brings the movement together for me

Um whether your consimporate dancor with your house ancer unlike your footplacement

Let's talk about footplease

Yeah Yeah

Yeah

You know whether you're a cpper or a ballet dancer

Let's talk about weight distribution

Yeah

You know um how we move in

How we think and how mindful we are with our bodies

It's just

That's just a human thing

You know

Rather than it just being like all my dance style makes me a completely different species of human being like you know at

At the end of the day

It's like technique

There's more nuonance to talking about technique

Than it is just talking about like foundation of like justiure style

Like technique isn't just just based off those moves like i said

But it can also just be something about just noticing like just a little things that your body does or how important

It is to put a certain structure together now for me

Since i love

Because i would say like movement are is like my main medium that i like to do um

Because i do

I do direct

I do do cinemattography

So a lot of like my two mediums is cinemmhotography and movement aren't um in the form of performance art

So yeah

The subject could be dance or a certain dance styles

But i see a lot of dance as just movement aren't you know

Or if you say you're a dancer

You're just a lover of it

Your lover of movement aren't um

Maybe other people don't see that way

But that's kind like how i see it

That's kind of like what allows me to disconnect

Everything like not everything is so separate um

Yes

These approachare are different

They're like really much the same

That's

That's a long with the answer

But oh

No

Too long long the answer

I think like your very specispecial case in the sense that would like do so many different things

And even the way that you approach uh dance in general

Like like if i look at your social media right like there's really like how many times do you have notice

I feel like three four on my main main maase is like six okay okay

When you put out a little bit more but like ii love all i feel like every how i watch your post

I feel like i'm just watching aa piece of art

Or like it's um i can't just define it as like a dance video

Because i feel like there's more to it than that

And you can see all kinds of dance videos

Like something something people just take a clip of

Of a class like demonstration

And that's

That's a dance real

But contcontent is

Is more rethat

But it's actually carried it

This is curry it on that's also another day i'd take part to to the question next before that i forforgot mamasion was iii also see dance as the way i see

Cause i started drawing and painting um

So the way that i see dance is the same way i see drawing and a visual

Visual

Visual are in a finance ance um culpting even but um mainly just painting

So i think that get just being a good equalizer between like everybody mean like i do this and i do that

When my body is can't like year

You're just painting a different way

You know um how does that look on campus so composition is like a huge thing for me and just cineomattography i guess

Helps me kind of bllain both worlds

Martielarts got me going like oh

You can just paint with their body

Um and and well looking all these different artist who know how to paint with their bodies

I yes and then it left ft the paper

But i kind of like still like drawing so directing was just just the next for me

Me to spbe like art

Well my black canvas is the camera

And whatever fits into that camera and how whever we can story we can paint or from that composition of the camera is like how that does things and i'm like

Oh

Film that make sense um

Because that's literally the same thing and yeah i just that's why i guess you could say like a lot of my things are like yes

You can say like a component of it is dance

But it's not the main thing

Not not to say like i'm dancers

Who want to be like i'm showing you that i'm my dancer like that's

That's how they just one of this express themselves um

But for me i just see it is more like a composition and movement ment art that's so well would like i ve always ten been curious like just give one or two example based on the past project

That you don't like how how does it that like how do you transform

Like i don't know how do you even get that idea

And then how do you even find the right case and right spot to film it

And how it it got that's fine

Because you like the four person ent is picking my brain on this step

That i droppum

Yeah

Ah i see it in my brain

Gogod just always cares i feel like

Like a lot of like you they're really creative

I'm just wondering how whain their brain like i see in my brain

I join it because it connects me to is drawbar

But that's well we done illustration our story brought that i'll see different references

And then i'll just me like well let me just put that in that

And this kind of mash it out

And i guess it's like also like years of like technically like studying some was odphphand and studying southtoa suofaa

That ggonna helps me like bring everything together

But for the most part of site for one thing here i ite cooking eggs and

可以

Oh

That's really yeah

I should dates

But that it going

Going going taste like this

But yeah

That's guguys for talking about thaking

I'm looking at this

Uh protein bar

It's a protein bar that doesn't ste graper

Yeah

But like yeah it is a good protein bar

Um different ingredience

If you will that like this allows me is just be it okay

If the composition is this

There's different subjects that i could put into it

Now are they going to move around

And

And not going move around

I'm going to side check off

And my mind has legone look now

Sometimes i go off from my main like driving themes that i play with

Is like it helps to have themes mes

I'm that you really relate ate to surrealism so is a big one for me

So a driving force for my

Creativity is the sec

It's

It's not even the ffet that is dream like are not even in fact that it's psychodelic given it just feels like it is never it this feels like it's like you're seeing it happened

But it feels like it's just what never happened of amazing

Since that's what the realism kind of feels like for me like a realism

This feels like a moment

That's

That's happening

Yet only you would experience that

No one else would believe you if you was to tell them about it

And that's so that's the feeling

That that's like the main like drive that i want people to feel when i see myself

Yeah

They're just kind or not you're describing ii do i do you yeah

Yeah like a music explain that to somebody and i saw this there would either be a interested

But they can't see that in your mind

It's only something that you experienced in your discount like well that has happened

That's can't like what serealism is to me and not just just a ter of weird images or at least the missed point that a lot of people is to understand and surrealism to be um shot out some my serealisst artist that like kind of pushsh that point um

But that was also another two things that when i studying are and know actually getting into artwwas on afrofutouorism and serealism m and i think that when when comes es to the photography

Serealism is just always just like what i dry out

And then i'm just like well how can i make that like a um ve how can i make that move

I'i'm going to meet those

Those pictures move

And i think this is the fun part of like the created proprocess that i have this momoimamages my brabrain

I guess

Know

Know you want to hooup up a thing

Well i like just fassinating

I really like

I really like you

You

You probably you think of yourself more as an artistand a dencer of family

Someah right

Right

But like

But i guess

Because this

This is a poccuss about dance

How do you feel like all these other aspects are

Are kind inforforyour dance well the main

Well the main like driving force to all of this coming together

Is my love of dance

Um yeah still themmed around

It's still theemed around dance or at least how people can see dance in a more nuance way um rather than it just be

And like this is a street style

And this is a stuleotratrastyle

Where every case maybe it's like human art is way has way more debt in the easiest way for you to understand how deep that goes for humanity and understanding people story regarddless languguage culture is students

I say like second at at is food

That's like my next

I feel like my next driving subject in my pieces will be do food

Oh

Interesting um

Because food has such a how we handandfood

Food such such as such

It just tells a lot about a person

How you handle food

I'm prety chepscan

Chepscan can pull you into that

Because they'll ll ably saes the wrong thing thing ok um

But dance told you a lot about a culture

Um

Um the people that's formed the people i went to get into it

Um street dancys a line cateaborary ballays as a lot indigenous ous tribal dance ces says a lot just depending on

Doesn't matter where you from every human beings easy going to eat deaths in party

Everywhere you go like every day go lado

You're going to at least one

It was three things

And it's kind like dance is like the easiest way for people

This kind of just understand this universal language

But how that could be placed is it just just like dance competition

It can also just be

Be done just by happening like people can just dance um

And i think that i guess has ecoversis for other time that people just choose not to dance

But a yeah they can't happen at this time too what what do mean like arm

Then might to talk about how people don't i ok

You can run

I know ii know you are renting a lot of those opinions

Dance isn't just for dancers

I think think movement is just understanding yourself and understanding the space

That your in

If more people see that you don't

You don't necessarily have to

I think

I think people's approach towards dance is so much more intimidating only because they are seeing other people i guess apply themselves a certain way

And that that application being so popular

That they're like well if i'm not applying myself that specific way

Then i'm not good enough to dance

Or i'm not worthy of dancing

And it's like i think the pinnical of dance is expression

You get

You realized at half of if not all of these

All of these styles started off with somebody especially ally with street dance

It all started with somebody feeling the beat so much

They did just do this movement

And from that movement

People like what is that

And then that person goes i don't know

Or they would be like call this this yeah

Then they put a name to it

And then they put a name to the steps

Or you just do that enough times

And then puols like eso

What's

What's this thing of steps

Steh well

That's hip hop music

I sip up

Dance bomb bm

But i think that more people realized that that's how dance really started the human response to sound

And it's genuinely not thinking about the rule of what was prior to them

That they allot more people be happy

We have not just danced themselves

Yeah

And that doesn't have a degree

That doesn't have a that doesn't have a metal

That doesn't have money

Money that doesn't have any social many mardern social construct attacks to it

It's completely free

And i just think that why ddance ces that's why i love dance so much

Because it's free

It's free to do

And it allows people to appreciate art of themselves in a deeper way

And

And let's come like my short answer

Today i guess like what's even how do you define a dancer

Because for the longest time i don't think of myself as a dancer

Because as you can see i do software um

And i've always have this mindof like a dancer of someone who lives off of dance

Or like at least that's the definition for me

For professional dancer means they they they do it for money like pretty

But that you know that's their way of living

And that's pretty much all that they do

And not not clazed that um first for all melannie like told me

Like got to claim that you're dancer

You can't like what is it about dance

That you're not doing

Yet that you think a dancers doing

You're just not using it to pay your renrent

But like you are training

You are performing

You you're in all these spaces

That like your

Your minddance er is in

And you're doing dance

So why do you think yourself not as a dancer

And another thing is i realize

That you know people who do it as a profession do so much work outside of dance

As well you know administrarative work applying for grants

And like so like what is even a dancer

Like what's under that name

Oh

What's even under that name

So the greree question

You really really have so many answers

But you like you try to pick one

You can say

You can say whatever you want to say

Or you can say five daner is

Oh

Good like day

Yeah

Love good questions

The good questions like is just a better journey of like thoughts provoking is

Is you

You use just search for answers is this

That youre's this we're basically saying that medium or that art form is this something that you genuinely are interested in doing

I think a dant

Some of the best

I'm reguout like this some of the best dancers are non dancers

What do i mean about that i mean some of the best dances

I've ever talked to our people who don't even dance

Theare 're people that just love looking at it

嗯 I think

I think to love something without being able to do it is what technically makes you that thing if i lost both my hands

And i couldn't draw anymore

I would still love to look at art

And i'm still low fine artist water ter in in mind ind in my sosoul

I know i still still relate to that

And still still arch for truth in that art tonone it's a dancer

Like dancers who have i've to seen before dancers who have like lost their legs

And

And y're still dancing

Yeah

I've seen that too they

They are on there

What is it the thing that supporting

And they're on beat fully

And i'm

I'm like a mato to there's some dancer

Yeah

You know

And i feeling

People feel danired to watch them to sometimes people find a lot of exaccers

There like i can't dance

Because of this dance

And that you know

You see all these people who lost their hands

And they're still dancing

Who lost their leg

And

And are still dancing

And you know

You know there's some dancers

There's some dancers

Who are professional

Who are getting paid to dance

You are not even good dancers

Then i've aching a full potential of their ability to be able to dance

Because

Don't

Don't know know why they love what they're doing

Yeah

And i've seen that before too i've seen dancers who are like at high places

And you're on their close friends

On their stories

And ah just like i don't know what i'm doing

They just got off tour

They don't

And everything when every other dancer would be like well you're getting paid is you saw a classes is that it third

And you're like depressed

Yeah

And i'm just like well well they're at the pnacle of what they're doing

If we're saying

We're all like a green

Like like ok

And be be good dancer or to be a professional dcer

Or to be a successful dance er is that didn't why do

Do not fulfulfilled

And what they do and be a good relationship to what they say they love is not really there um

Um again

I think to be a good artist or a good dancer or a musician of this singer or a good rapper is to really is you're basically just saying or you should trufully be saying that you love the art form um another way to put it is you don't love it on yourself

That's what it's like sometimes i love dance so much

I don't feel like i'm worthy of calling myself a dancer all the time

Because it's like i love watching it so much on other people um that i don't even considered myself in that conversation

And i think people were inspired off of me

And i'm just like robot have you seen this person

Because i'm just so enoramed by looking at movement

Art

Art michael jackson couldn't even sleep

You know he talked about hay data back two am because music was just

He is obvious

I had his life force

So he just couldn't stop doing it everything we stop his love and references to everything was this music

He was a true musician

A true artist

Because his love for the art of it was just so much grand

More grand than himself

And i think that

That's what it means this is via answer

It's two things

Why get the qualifications for me

My qualifications of what makes you what a true dancer is if you was to stop dancing you

Or if you didn't have the ability to two dance

You would still be dancing

You would still be dancing in your heart

You still be dancing in your mind

But i guess the where i can describe or at least break down my answer to it is like what makes a dancer

A dancer who just loves

Who just

Who not only just says that they ve the art

Art

But they

They just are working to be coming

Like whenever they can

And whenever they

They can

Yeah

Yeah

Yeah

That's my take it

It I guess

But you know like it's a currently the industry colleis it's not

It's not really functioning that way

And like yeah

Um well it

It's an open ended question

But like ii think ideally in your ideal world

Um what type of platform

What type of opportunities do think dancers should be getting or truly dearcus like i feel like the way that you're making your film

You know dance film production kind of you know like is that your vision is to one day kind of you know make a film or theater work around dance

And have it be on screen

The same way that other films are on or like cause right now i feel like a professional career track for dancers either you know be ybrobrobroway or join a dance theare company or be aa back of stage dancer for a singer lake

Um i guess in your ideal world what should be um like a perfect habitat for people who genuinely a ve dance perforse have capitalistic system

There's no way that money can't be involved in dance

Yeah

But i don't think that i will have enough ego to

To concreate an ideal world

Um

And that's why

That's wewhere on the pocket

We're just say now if you're in your dream

What

What i would like human

Oh

I would reciate more as this more gainspaces

Where things are just free

And the exchange is just stories

And not art that is used for a professional ans or resume mes to

I think a lot of people utize ze but misss does not not just dance

But ah like people nowadays

Yyicof social media are using art

It means to build themselves up rather than expand out

Um

I remember a fenamenhe who saw my dancers

And like they're like a ability

I never say there's a better dancer

哼 Always

Always say there's a more season dancer

Hah yeah

Matmature ity know know ah times we can make to

We can make the same soup

But because you just have less experience with making that soup

You just don't know

You just don't know

You know how much season you need the one in it there's some maybe like all i've make the soup before yeah

And esxis coli had how dancers yeah

How are isn't general

But my friend was basically like the tears

Like it like tears of like dancing

And suffect that

And i was like i don't see dancing tears

I sees dancing zones

Where every dancer has a comfort zone in especially

When when i first start dancing

They haven't really expllored the zones

That phow how far they can take it if i'm ststanding still like the farthest i can like expand my zone is like only yes far about my two feet

Yeah

And that's okay

And that's

And was what i like about it is the fact

That is it's okay for that to be years old

That

This means that you just have yet to just expand out and move around

Um will never be afraid to to explore to see how far you how far out you can go um and i think at that sweet

I'm amusing an example just to the sallike

I would like more spaces or a people the way that people utilize their dancing to be looked at in that direction

Um

Where it's like look how far i'm willing to go with my understanding of sound and body

Um and look out that's in one topic that look out that's able to tell a story or the stories that i have my background allows me to show you that noon um this is my driving force of why i'm able to go there so far like instead of being like on a floor

One Two

Three four five six seven

Yeah

It's zone one

Zone ones pretty small zone tools like kind init expends

And it is expends from that point

Some people are in zone

Some people are able to go to zone seven

Because that's pretty far out there

And in some people are only comfortable in zone one

Maybe my comfort zone

My beans zone seven

Maybe your comcomforzzone my beans own two

But we're not wrong either of was wrong ong just that some people just prefer to go up

But there

But the dept of that

It's kind of what matters in the story that you're able to tell in that comfort zone one

I just think that

Whatever that sounds of this sounds complex of me just saying that

I just hope that

That kind of like peaks your interest more than just being like look how i could do a bad flip indiyou can't you know like i just still feel like people are i still feel like a lot of dances

Right now i still still in this place weare saying um they're saying are theysaying like the day and i'm a move and artist not like i stop

But it still really just comes down to like kitnegar

And i can do a back flip

Ha ha

You can

Yeah

Like it's really just comes down to those conversations

And it's like you just can't form me with that

Wow i can't do that

But that doesn't mean that my dance is as just as bad

And how do we know this

We see this

By people who are free to come into the dance

Because they're just like wow i can't do a back flip

You know people have said it to mean skills

I haven't been able to dance

Like how you do unlike

Of course you can we're two different people not because we're because ii train long

And i knew not because it is just were two different people

Of course you

You will never be able to dance

Like me that does had to be look like eelotiistically ally

Yes

That it's slight logistically

Yeah

That's two bodidies will ally like just different bodies works different

Ah my angle le twisted healed up

I can

I can't even dance the same you skills

Yeah

Two years ago

Like you know i heard my back a couple years ago

I can even be the same eske

I would love to be ar right

What better

No

Once than i technique now

But

But what's your story though

Yeah No

That's what matters to me

But what's your story though

But why do you know i do not capable to be here with me

Just because i know how to do a bslip

You You

You know that's what a conversation of debt counon in the gateeego

Because ego doesn't want debt

Ego won surface level you to see

What you see you're supposed to be impressed

Yousupppose they big deep

Yeah

All our bad

My favor's same nowadays is all of our bags could be deeper

All of our bags could be deeper

My bag deep

But my bag could be deeper

Like my det of how much i understand myself could be deeper

And i know i can do about myself um so with all that being said i would like spaces to

To let that meat a driving force of that um that all of our bags could be deeper

How can we make our bags deeper

Whether we 're going to portrayay art

We all sit down and just watch each other dance or we all dance together

And i would just like more spaces to be that um

I guess that's my ideal dance

What yes

Because i feel like if it looked talking about that right like spaces doing like we have sessions nowadays

But more often than not it

I at least do feel intimited ted

When i first started restlling and a thing like you and all these great daners in the circle

I do feel into it like yes you guys are

And

And how like in the species that we already have

How can we curate that type woth kind of supportive environment

And how like it's not

It's probably not you guys and make me feel like

Like they don't welcome me

But it's more so like me at least one ii first start

I was like there will be a waste of their time

If they watch me dance

Like they can't learn anything from what i do

You know like how do you well there's a session

When the sessions happening is a session

After the session

I think that people just need to talk

Yes

Exactly that's a we to have conversations

You know everybody listen on a park

As talking is a dance within itself guys conversation is a dance within itself conversation gets an unverbable conversation is acacal verbal conversation

If you're speaking chinese

And you don't know english

And i only know english

And i don't speak chinese

Then dance is is ably going to be very important for us to both kind of like connect

I'm like who is jing shoe

But then jing shoe is like i don't know english

But i'm be like okay as in that's why dancers dope

Cause it's like okay

We can still connect though yeah

Because we still dance cwe with each other

Can i tell that your puaby like less asased in like or like you're in a specific zone to be able to like explore this music cool

But we could still like kind of like debts that out

If we both are like able to communicate verbally

It's like you can still talk to the person

After that again like what's your story

Where you are

Where

Where you from getting to know each other people know each know people and also think like um

When you was like how do we like facility to those spes es i was about to immediately my minm like well

That's our job not yours

The people that are people listen to one of this potcast

If you're good at dance

And you're good at what you do

If somebody's knew you have a responsibility to facilitate space ace for to explore wow

That is your responsibility

That is your soul responsibility

You're not good at dance for yourself

You're good at dance

Because a like i said earlier you love to dance

And you love the art

And like i also just said

Because you love it so much

It's not about you

Yes

You would love to see it on other people with anything

I love them so much

I love to see people growing them

That's

That's why i teach teaching has made me appreciate ance even more

Cause i'm like wow

I get to see dance on other people

Let alone my own cultural style jersey club

Something like that

That's our responsibility you have to facilitate those spaces

I'm the good death

So

So of course

People going be intiminated by me being able to explore more

Than them

Yeah

But i'm

But if i'm also good

If i'm also good at the dance

That also means that i have enough understanding that it's not just about me

It's not just about moves

I should have my dance in my wisdom should be the same level well sad

Oh my god

Because i think you know it takes

It's like you know if by chance you

You come into a space

Where a good dancers also a good facility or do you do feel safe

And then you realize that okay

I can't feel safe around people that are more season than me versus like at least this time me going back to china

I feel like dance

There feels like a school system

Where you know everyone's trying to be teacher's favourite student

And like

And it's too much of a competition that it doesn't feel genuine and in a lot of the classes

I feel like they don't like to dance

You know like it's three minutes before class

Nobodymoving

Nobody's talking to each other

Everybody's on their phone sitting like a couch potato

And i'm like movement and communication like these are two things of anything about dance right

And it's uh space for desk

But nobody's doing either of the team

And i just feel like for people who are listening on this poycas like if you feel like that's weird

If you feel like this space is not for you just be confident

And you know try to explore

And there are people out there

And there are spaces out there

That are four

You don't give up on it just purely

Because you know there your currents surrounding

Doesn't feel like a right ite it and also also that confidence that you feel find something

If not you will crecrecurate something that feels right

I feel like exple should of protart

You know like truly don't dn't basase on

On their intumation

What they feel is right

If this feels wrong for you like don't doubt yourself

It might be the environment

That's not

Yeah

It might be the environment

You might have had a bad day

Yeah

I never really beating up myself

I never bebeating up myself a lot in times

Were like i didn't do good in that way ve yeah make sense

And then sometimes that i stoppto be like liliger

Maybe you just didn't have a good day

Honarrow my

My best friend

He used to say that to me

He would like bross

Sometimes we just have bad days

He said that's not

He said not in a

Not in a

Like everybody says that you somesomebody ia disappear a bad day

So sometimes who genuned out to look at yourself

And saying like i just had a bad day

I woke up

You know

You know

There's nothing wrong with this being like does are instipulations that just didn't alalme me to really exexpress yyself

And this going to be be some days

We're going be like

Wow

Because we all want to be perfect

Yeah

But that's what we want

But that's that what we need

We don't need to be looking at it like

That like

And that's also part of stories too i think is dope to i think is

I think is dopfor more dancers to be dancing

And they just stp to be like you know what i'm maxzine

I really feling it right now to be the

To be the best dancers

To be the most human

Wow

Let's make that

Let's make that

The

Let's make that the criteria

I think if you just be lake

To be the best artist

To be the most human

Yes

And that's why ai will never get my respect

Because it's not human

Is just not human

Why would you is not the fact

That

That ai is able to make an

I know wn this i to segree into ai but like good ficficent robots

But is that even is i even just that

That's crazy like ai would never tell me

I'm depress

I don't know i can make already more

That's the artist

That's the artist right there the it ll be a buluzu

Then bring it up to in this like you're not an artist

You know those artist where ii youyou'll go a gallally and number explaining this to all one of my friends

And i wasn't austrio as like i went ted

I wted the art museum

And what of my favorite things to do is look at the

At the dates quon logically because that's the process this of artitii'would be like ninety

Eighty nine ninety ninety gap years

Dirty year in an in to be like twenty twelve um

And then like you can see like all their stuff

It just kind like really nice

And then like twenty twelve

They just be like whatever happened to them

They just said f it

And just decided to pick it up again

Because up the brinthing brush whatever and know will just be something it's still them

But it's something more yeah or

Or daring

Or just

Just different

You can tell that they kind of go to another zoo

Whether they do the journey yeah of like not being perfect proaby having kids wife died

I has been died

Family member like whole drugs were covered human stuff

A real life stuff

And they just are creating with their life experiences

Like ai don't know that you're not human

You're not of error

Ai is always going to give you the perfect image

The perfect whatever and produce something for you right when you ask for it

It's like

Not

It's like you not going shooyou

You not going throw stuff at me and shoot me away

When you

When you make stuff

You're not that artist

That would be win the next art coming out in your lockey schizophrenic

And you don't know how to like navigate stuff as you're losing your mind

You're worried about your career and your arts not coming out the way

It It is

Or you've been homeless for most of your life

And youyou're struggling the fact that your famous

Now you know everybody is in your face

Or you know you're the only black artist at a white space

And you

You struggle with your identy as a black artist

Or you're the only asian artist in a predominantly white space

Or you know you're the only artist of like a family

Or you're like a recoverin drug adtihe who decided to paint

But you don't know if you're a would have plex real stories like real human stories that you're just like your 're or one day you just just lolothe the pastited to paint

And

And you in every vice

That the museum is like when they gota a in again

It is belielike

Yeah He

He or she is disappeared of the face of the earth too like you never hear them again

Musicians do that all the time yeah

A new musicians on um

Some asian artist who like made music like back in the eighties

Would you be like

And you never enaged left the english enages never it made one album bluw up enages disappear as a real art

There's a al like

Like the story and the error

The the

The human

The human trial and error behind is what makes it are art best artist are the most human

And it's side

You know this is

Is is like

Is this not

There's no difference to like

To like the dancers like if you're a good dancer

You should understand where

Where jee shoes coming from

And she's like

I don't know i'm good enof the dance

Here like now vex

I had to go to four hundred of those experiences just for one day

For me to

To spite like hon i actually just datch just now

But until then we're right here

Until you do yeah

And i think that some people just seeen into a backflip yet

Oh

H my that's what a point though

Of course

It's not gona look go but the hand of you

A marble ball in front of you

And just like not make me a freaking great gud sculpture are you going to be like broo

You go like dying in frick male e bs on on ffororing

Why you not making a sculpture yet prw like yeah

It's a

It's a process

It's a journey

It's a process

As my long rann about the best dancers

The best artist are

Are er most humans

My users can't be that like i think like that's why

That's why i made this forecast even either like i remembered when i first first started to dance or like take a class

I think like you know the people that are good at dance

Are some other species like

Like you said it so

So i think like probably we live

We live in a different world

Like probably don't

Don't pay taxes

You know do they

I feel like i was just like exploring a part of me

That i even like when i first stare dancing people like don't

You even know that i'm dancing really like it's the same as you like i kind of i was like i'm just going in there

And for those two hours like i'm kind of in a different shell and whoembours in that room

And when i'm

I was like that's like close memory

That's just let's in the reason like also that's the reason

Why for the long as time i didn't talk to people

Who dadn't like i feel like

Like i say i don't know

If they talk like in casser just moving like ii don't know they speak

I'm

I

I'm a good dancer

But it take me a very long time to say that um about myself

I'm a good dancer

But i let a lot of people down in my life

I let a lot of people down who were close to me

Because it wasn't about dance

I had made a lot of this

A lot of mistakes

I have made it is also fuelled by dance to disnot chase perfection per say

But just have me realized what i realize now that i'm human um in people of air

Maybe some of those people is some people who have bomb classes

But they literally cannot pay their rent um next month

Or there's some dancers who look in have the field in everything in our almost um you know what people go

Going

Though it it's like some people

It

It's like it's sad

Because some people really feeling client to just be like i'm so willing to show off the fact that i'm a good dancer

That none of that matters in this sghday browler

You know like relax

Like you know you're not really all that like everybody got something going on

And like if i'have if ll ask around and ask anybody that's close to you

Uh people that you let down before they be like you did you know that he ah he or she actually really did this before and be like

Like and people so shocck

But it be like you're only in it

Sometimes i had to think about it lake i'm only shock ked

When i love the art form so much

That i allowed it to build this perception of that person

Because they're just good at that art form

But there's so aa woman at the end of the day

You know that like when they come es to my attention

I'm like

Wow

I didn't realize that they were

They did that you know or they capable able doing ing

Because their dancing was so good

Good

It's like you know and this you know this dancers that i've met that they're not good people

Yeah

Oh my god

Yes

You're just not good people

And i love

I love that i acaci actually welcome that

That's actually a humbling experience

Youyouyou're such a dog dance and ages gave me to cold shoulder

They just like a complete ao

And i'm just like that person's trouble

And of course the dance shouldn't match the character

Their human man too like maybe i was living in law a land

Maybe i need to take some responsibility and not itilize people just because they're good at their art form

Like people really have struggles and things

And some people are in this

Unfortunately some people are in this

The

The wrong ong on

Yes

Some people really lead with dance

And just be like only the dance do i care about

And you should care about what is like

So that other people coming into this

This like you should care more about the humanity of art

Than it is like dance

This is like when you add the criteria of humanity into things

It just

It just changes

It just changes the way you

It changes the way that you go about it

It changes the way that you give yourself grace

It just changes the way that you treat other people yeah in

In artistic spaces

Whether those people understand it or not it's like i'd rather

I'd

But i'd rather started

If nobody else is doing it

I'd rather started

I know that's hard to do

If you're the only one

But you know

But then you got like jiiyou coming into the space

And it's like while nobody else is going to do it that be heall for her

If nobody was going to give it that love you know

And then you know

If nobody else did it

You dance and advis giving you

That it's not especial

But that one person being lake not as fire

Because ve ve had that yeah

And

And uza to those people

Then it's my heart go

Go emotional about that

But when you really think about it

It's like it's those people that got me here

Yeah

You know

Because hehas been plenty of dance spaces

That i've walked in just like anybody else

Where i'd like dying a suck ck

Could i just started

Yeah

It is that one person right percde me

Whether is my ommy or some random stranger who just really loves that

Then care there's zone of my own

Who really was like e who i was fire

And even if i'm really like that sck t there's still a part of me

That's body like you

Somebody sees me

Somebody recognizes me as a human pain

And it's like that's a part of my process is all the part of our processes

So that gets me to a place rm ly

I'm able to like produce

And then if that made a difference who knows what would happen

If i stopped

You know i won't be here to speak this

You know and i know

So i meknow about win of my rent and people was like you know

Yeah

But you speak of facts

And i'm like i mean yes is facts in in

We don't make me

We don't make me out to be like this wise girw who sit at the top of mount

And see no all this deep stuff

It's not even that it's like this should be just regular conversation

Actually

This isn't some like wonderous things

So maybe i might be underselling myself so humble whawhatever the case may be

But it's like it should be

That it should be these conversations should be regular

Because we would see a big change in dance

If we just start having more conversations about it

And that's why i appreciate this podcast

So appreciate you like having me here created this space for it

Because you know this is just one of those ways to be like well i never knew this dancer felt this way um outlets and what not yeah

And i think like the reason i started the poctest is because when i ver started

I see these people

And i feel like they're not human

And then i realize that you know everybody was once a begininner

Or know know the right might said is that you're always a beginner

You're always learning it going

But i think like people see them being so good so skilled now

But they don't know what's the journey behind it

Or what they've been through out how they got there

And it's the how

And it's process

I think that matters that

That has more value to people

And we need to share it

Because otherwise everyone just things like

Like think think a lot of beginners see that and like

Oh

I'll never do that in my lifetime

But you don't know if you'll do that a lifetime is a long time

Like

But you know you've been dancing for sixteen now

But

But you ver that's listening if you're forty now

And

And you will be sixty in twenty years

And that will be long enough for you to be skkiltime something whether ther stands or other whafever keep it simple do you like us on yes did you like tap your phid and like smile a little bit

Yes congratulations you move

Today you know it's like one thing

This re's one exthere's one exchange

That i had

That is completely happened this year

That completely like changed me there was as guy on a subway

He had no arms

But he

He had little no ps

He

He had arms

Ms

He was asking for change

And he obviously spoke spanish

And he didn't know ly how to speak english

And anyy just looks so down on him cozyanno arms

I'm rushing

And i rushing my bag like i was like whatever change i

Guy you know and he takes low nubs

And has the cup between his note

And he's like and had a port of freaking cast

And i'm seen he're just like you like it's things like that words

Like go

Like that could be any one of us

Yeah

You know like

Like we all just relax x al quicke

Like we're all on these legs

Snpes and red boll

And what all these crazy stages es and it's like brw you could wake up

And you're just legs just don't work

Now what now what matters

You know now now now be all like tough and in and look down on

And like people when they try

When when not not enengh and cirirles like relarelax brolling

I think if that type of competitional hierarchical mindset exists

Then you will also never be satisfied with yourself right right like it's like um

If you look up or fantish about people being

Being at the top of it

Or like you know being great

And then you have the fear that you one day you will be at the bottom

Like

And that will

That will be a forever it's like greed

Or you know it's like a blue

You're looking like there's just no ending to it

And i think you know like it's

It's that type of um

I think not just in the dance tom

But in life

In general

Like people are snobbish right a little greay

When when you human um

You're good dancer

And you going a circle

And you're the popular one

Wheeveryone wants to talk to you

Eeveryone wants to like learn something from you

And if you're a beginner

You go there

And you just feel like you're invisible

And nobody's noticing that like

And it's kind of if little go al like that you know

If you go to lm

Especially

If things are more commercialize

And people make friends with you

Because you know certain people

You got certain connections

You are at a level

Where you can introduce ce opportunities to of those like

But if you look at the system that way

And you will forever

You be miservar

Yeah

It is like to be honest i'm apppryed for those people

And i foll back for them

It is like this some people are genuinely like i

And i know i'm going on record by saining us

Like there's some people who at the top

And i could look at them

And i'm be like i felbet for you

Because i know you're miserable

I know you're the best

And you're miserable

What's the point

Yeah

What's the point

You

You now

Now you've lost your passion

But you have to keep doing it to get paid

And everybody knows you for that

That's how i don't want that meanwhile there's is one time

And this

And this is why like my art reflects that

Because situations where else like stories i abbe like i've only experienced that

And it was just a moment

Like i've had that

I'm dislike

I don't even ver think anybody could ever understand the debt over is that moment but me

It was so specific to me

But i numbers seeing like this was like a homeless guy with brother who's like homeless

We obviously like a drug adtic and one show one sneaker

And like it was a house festival

And he was just feeling it um

He was free

He had the best groove

I've ever seen he just in it

Grove it in for the first time

I was jealous

I'm jealous him

I'm like i got all these bills

All these things

He's nothing just him in his broken mind

And does that be now that's extremes to be

Like i gotta chase that

But like it's a weird feeling to dissee freedom

Yes on somebody who don't even who lost

Only you know what his story ory is

And i'm raay for him too

But like it's just such a complex emotion that i felt

I still think about i guess always just just just just a that's such such quwarshiship in me

That i in at that time i was really trying of fuel house

And i learned something from him

Yeah

I'm like in that moment outlike

I'i've been looking at dance wrong

Yeah i never after that my dancing plepletely change my dancing got better don coal after watching a homeless man

Give a good jack

That jack that groove some of the best house theirs is right now i compare that to that

And am i still not it

It still don't give me the same

And maybe it's the nuonce the fact that he was like homeless

And like he didn't heaven

But it's just like the human

Yeah

Thing of the scene is eyes closed

That was just it was free

It was everything was completely free

When i see danswers

I see a cost

They did just willing to pay for away is like browlike like just dance

You know in a society is the things like that they kind of shape

My opinion one things and why like a lot of times

When i'm in certain spaces

I don't say a lot because like i just know that everywise car just in this like competition stage

Yeah like people see things like stack instead of out

Like you know we can all like hug yah ah love dance

Ance it like like yeah i love dance and in the perons like you

But i traveled here

And i never left the country until twenty eight

I just

I just got my passport at twenty years years old

I just want to

To wsue it was one of the best experiences

I'ever

And i'm going to be

Be going sppain next month

Wow

You know song going to be

Traveling meanwhile this other people who pibe travell the world billions times times miserable go

You know like is just there's so much more this is a good debt

There's so much more numanance to art and dance and movement in humanity

Than than just these these things

These these thethey will come in pass

Like you know if all the this stuff ff was going tomorrow who was a wake up and instagrams like well all that work you did don't instagram bye bye just gone like everyvice harry on other social minutes like instagrams going on

Like what's going going

Like that's t's going going

All my sasaings

All my my hard work on

All my hard work

All these days

These these people

These followers going on

那我are you going to keep dancing

And i really believe that a lot of people just will just stop dancing

Think a lot of them just be like they're tired

They're so tired to their resume

And like how people perceive them with dance

They've been using it wrong

And like how that's like going eego that their going to sion theywhat what say say they that's force is

Is going to go to

And us in to be out as i look force to that there i forforto that inintegrm disha everything down

I think people are like artists

Especially i think have we are relationship with social media

It's like they rely ed it to some extent

But they also hated to some extent

They like it's a lucky relationship

If you have a smbbiotic relationship with social media

And you don't see no wrong with it

I'm just going

Going to regret

And say you not

Not ararst ly

Because every ararst st know like you said has to sweejust have such like a weird relationship or art

Like so so ii go on my story

And i share

My

I share too much

Like what i like

Like

Like i say so much right away

What you see

Because i was that kid many of us was their kid that was just like on the side aucdeside

Yeah like aawwward doesn't feel know like you know that's this kind just like row

You wanted like what why am i doing any easy thing

Thing

This kind ound like i think dance also help me for help me be like social

Because sound like instead of

Like it's so like being the first one to talk

I just be been the first one

The dance kind of forces

You do like you like

Like

Like vise like you so it's this

You know that i also helped like my social idethat i help like my anxiety

So that

But at the same time

It's like you we have we all disstruggle just being like dying

Why i'm my own thicking at because i wake up everything like why

Why does this exist like right what is this

Because back in the days

It

It didn't exist i feel like dancers back that or more creative if they

They have in a ball

Because their life i also noticed is too like their

Their eyes wasn't like this

Like they're like foreerial

Like vision

Everything was like this

Like everything was like around

Like i think we've been trained to look at things like this

Yeah too which is crazy

There were all like horses that we pull out

It's this are we're not supposed to be like built for that like we're lily touching medal

We have pieces of medal in our pockets that we pull out

And we tap all day

That's like

Like you all love will say like from a cat

If you have a pat

You know from a cats view or uh dogs view

It's just a piece of metal

Al that that kind of lilits ts and that that you are just concerling addicted you and they kind of pull attention away

Yeah

It's like broadly really the low laser as ther well we could picget

It's like a break

That shines a piece

A piece of vgken block of metal

They just just tapping away

All day at

Let's say brlilike

How can i take my power background

You know um friend is

Is termining off the phone

But it's psyga like

But i have

I have

My do not disturb momode on all day long

That's why i don't get your cause

Yeah Yeah

It's okay um keep

Keep doing that just check

Get every once in a while

But yeah

Yeah

Humanity is um humanity you can't have art without humanity

Because is the humans that make it art

Yeah

You know that's litererally aa some of of guy

I'm some of everything just

But dance

I love dance

I love the

I love the

I love dance

And i love ddance flaws just like i love dance flaws

I love the flaws of dance

I think

I think ii actually strive to be more comfortable with dance flaws um and crange

Yeah

When things are cryge e don't

Don't make sense

And somebody's knew

It's like we should all work to welcome that

I think

I think that's the first that we should all work to

To understand that

Because it's not the dancer

It's not james you coming in obviously

She's not used to doing that wave correctly

And i cringe and i want to make her feel bad or like not support her

But it's like there's something in me that's like and okay that's maybe i hear that i'm seeing like not good things being done that makes me feel a certain type away

And instead of like making that person feel bad

I should welcome that

You know um i think that's a good start

Yeah

I think also that's why i art like connects people together

And people resonate ate it

That's the humanity part of it

It we should all see a part of ourselves in art work

Which means like you know a part of ourselves that's flaw

That's imperfect

And you see how people can be so honest and so brave to put that vulnerability out there

And i feel like that's what connects people

And that's what speaks to people's hard

That's why people will felm lowith it yeah

Ah always

Always

Always start with the imperfect part

It's the not so great car

But it's not not so great

But they embrace it part

Yeah

That is healing for

For others new

Oh

I don't know it's to genansful

是我

Creally really really

Really taltalk about some some some good stuff right now i mean that's

I mean that's all like

That's all like and all like can ever break down

I hope i answered your questions

But ii don't know why we got

Got

Got here

But i guess one of the last questions

That i always asked everyone on the poccast

If you could speak to your youngers

Who

Who just started to dance

Like what would be some advice

That you would give um is ok to make mistakes

Um your mistakes is what defines you

It's you going to have bad days

You just work to be kinds to yourself

That's a art form

There's a art form

That's not a

That's not some advice

That's looly an art form

Within itself learning the art of being kind is the most important art form

Wow I wish

I wish

I wish sometimes like i really

When i had those epiphanes it change ged me

But that is that if there's anything that i wish and know almost i got me

But i just i do wish

If there's anything ii do wish i do wish that i was something i knew earlier and never feel bad

That are having fun

Um

So we're thing yeyeah

Everybody

Everybody asians expressisurgy

Like

Like we just i feel like people feel guilty

When they're having fun

It's almost like you y you

You

You can't be fully happy

Because when you're happy

Your you're sad or you're like kind of guilty

And when you're not feeling great

Then you want to feel great yeah

But when you do feel great

You don't feel great like

So you never get to that thing i've actually is interesting as it's like because i've hely ly before

And i mean i will

I will never really understand a new ones of that

That's why like i love having these conversations

So i know culturally like it's different

That's really sad

Sad in hour of bringing word tauds

That you know you need to work hard

And like if something feels like

Like you're pushing through

Like you're having a hard time

It means you're growing

So there's something positive associated to bad experience

And there's something negative associated to positive experience

Because that you're being lazy or just you know not doing anything

Or like you're not progressing

And i feel like we think of progress as a given

Like we think we don't ask questions on why we need to make progress

Why we need to be better

Or why we

You know like i think there's something cultural

And like um given the historical time that china was in yeah going in the past twenty years

We're just economic is fast growing everythings like just going upwward upward

And people don't question that yeah

Nowadays

People started like people wwadays

People started to shift their minds on that

And feel like 一楼

We start appreciate

You know maybe just having a small family business business kekeps

Ps

Being small

Small

And you pass it on

You know within generations

And that's kind of how japan

A lot of people in japan

Yeah

Business in japan functions that way but at least back the the days

And do you make a business in the next step is to make how to make it bigger

How do you like you go go go

And like how do you sell it like more people um

But i think you know like yeah

I think it's

It's

It's a spectrum

Like some companies are meant to to be big

And like serve a lot of people

People some something are meant to be small and delicate

And just sesee you find your small audience same thing with dance

Yes

If you 're dancer

You got to be the best

It's time to be the best dancer

I have ever seen ever like you

I like somesometimes i like one just just dance to just have fun like you

I just my dance for myself

And like catch me at some cyphers

Yes

Sometimes

Sometimes someyou

Sometimes you ah oah can you know guguys can just dance to be healthy right like you don't have to best ddn't to have a resume lake

It's some

It's like yah people going have have great ance

And if you just so happen to like makes money

And some of it that yet

That's cool

Like

But like don't let that be the indoor bo like don't chtry to chase that yeah

No try to let become something because you

You start losing the reason

Why you did stuff

Yeah

And that's just a slippery slow

And can you just keep being rewarded in music

Like

And why not like um

But yeah

Sustainability is this

But sustainability is the

Is the thing

Thing it in every every se we can lie right now like sustainability ties at because americamericcocoaches no different right you know like go go go

It's like can we all just just can we just live like yeah

We just live

Live like um anium

That's that either the where you get that now we get in front flipping robots yeah

Robots can do that so like

Are they best answers in your definition like it's it

You see where says ii can do fanclip yeah

So does mean an it it

Some people's crazy logic eventually when robots do it less

Jankey

People going be like robot

I'm don't people going

Going be like

Because i feel like all the technical stuff robots can do it better

They have better flexibility

They can turn their head

Like they can be their joyfelling and have resessitions away away

I tell people stop looking at technique so much

Because as a slepperes so much

Because your robots starting involved at least

I know the robot yeah

能看出来里面是来的wivvideo

可是why

Right it's like

Then the logistically it's going to be like i

That's a better dance er

But it's like

It's that the fact that i humans doing the robot

It's the fact that there's a no onto to you attempting to reveah you imagining removing your humanity to actually like do a robot

And that's like it's

It's like it's low

It's the flaud thinking yeah

Knowing that you're

You're imagining yourself being something else that makes it cool

Yeah

But ah ah bicycle from myself rote off robots

Yeah

You invite me like on our roroyeah okay

That's

That's for the future

Let's lesee

Where roall us will be like i mean

Yeah

Well does

Does going to be interesting

We live it interesting time

We really talk on different topics not just about this
