Desert Heat (VII) - Conrad Mortiss
Desert heat burns my skin like a fire
No water to soothe the dryness in my throat
My lips crack like a dry rack
Scorching sun and my shadow fades thin
Till it disappears in the mid of the day
My roan fell, broken leg could not save
Had to do what had to be done
Now I am alone in the middle of nowhere
Step by step in the heat of the day
The hot air stealing my breath away
No place to hide from the burning sun
No shade inside
No water left in the canteen
To quench the everlasting thirst
Cold of the night brings a chill which way to go
When the stars all align in the distant sky
I must find
How can I make it out alive
The best I can do is try
The middle of the desert where even the buzzards don't fly
Dry throat cracks with a whisperless snap
Sand beneath my feet feels like a fiery ground
Footprints vanish like ghosts in the dust
On this barren sand
Every step forward feels like a painful thrust
No saving grace in sight
Step by step in the heat of the day
The hot air stealing my breath away
No place to hide from the burning sun
No shade inside
No water left in the canteen
To quench the everlasting thirst
Cold of the night brings a chill which way to go
When the stars all align in the distant sky
I must find
How can I make it out alive
The best I can do is try
The middle of the desert where even the buzzards don't fly
The wind it blows the sand in my face
But it carries no guide just burns my hide
The sweat drips into my eyes
And makes me lose my sight
Only the weight of regret at my side
Cactus stands tall on the horizon
But they're not in my sight
This barren land feels like my grave
Which it may become
Step by step in the heat of the day
The hot air stealing my breath away
No place to hide from the burning sun
No shade inside
No water left in the canteen
To quench the everlasting thirst
Cold of the night brings a chill which way to go
When the stars all align in the distant sky
I must find
How can I make it out alive
The best I can do is try
The middle of the desert where even the buzzards don't fly
Eyes burn blind from the sun's cruel glare
No map no sign
Just endless despair yet in my chest
There's a stubborn beat
One last chance to defy defeat
Go on persevere to give up I cannot that's the fear
Step by step in the heat of the day
The hot air stealing my breath away
No place to hide from the burning sun
No shade inside
No water left in the canteen
To quench the everlasting thirst
Cold of the night brings a chill which way to go
When the stars all align in the distant sky
I must find
How can I make it out alive
The best I can do is try
The middle of the desert where even the buzzards don't fly
