Close the laptop

We're gone

Sent one last email from the hallway

Changed my shoes beside the stairs

Three missed calls can wait till Monday

Today I'm suddenly not there

Met my friends outside the station

One said,"Beach?" and no one asked why

Bought cold coffee for the highway

Left our calendars behind

No vacation days to waste

Just enough time to disappear

We're out by lunch

Gone before the afternoon knows

Shoes full of sand

Found a diner near the coastline

Ordered fries at half past three

Took a picture nobody posted

Kept the whole thing just for me

Someone jumped into the water

Still wearing half their clothes

We laughed until the sun went lower

Like we had nowhere else to go
