Searchlight in the forest
illuminates the figures
of two missionaries
hunting for the breath of
the mountaintop
As the air gets thinner
they begin to notice
pink-needled ferns,
and mushrooms of a blue flesh
hitherto unknown
At the plateau's nearing
they come upon a clearing
to interrupt the conference
of long-hidden giants
clad in dew
Perfume of a phantom
curls into their nostrils
bidding them ascend the
crimson-marbled ladder
to the lip of the plant
Fell into it's water
they become the spires
of a half-digested
steeple of small rodents,
drowned in prayer.
