In my dreams I am back at school
A teenager once more
The girls in class are bold and glame
But none I could adore
And then there's Myrtle at the back
All quiet and demure

She's geek and she's gawky
Wears glasses and look dorky
And no other boy ever looks her way
But Myrtle has that 'something' and if we got to talking
I felt she might have something nice to say
To look beyond what seems to be
Has always been the way for me
Glamorous girls so loud and bold
They always seem to leave me cold

More quiet and perhaps pettie
I'd sit with her just listening
And tell her jokes

Then one day I find her waiting
As I walk down the street
Turns out the girl she's waiting for is more than an hour late
"She won't be coming" I tell her
Seeing an opportunity
"The funfair's here in town today
Why don't you come with me"
She looked sad
And then cheery 'twas nice to have her near me
Then arm in arm we set off to play
She clearly liked the funfair
We had a lovely time there
And winning a big teddy really made her day

But we'd be happier than at the zoo
So that's what we've begun to do
Go to the park swimming pool and zoo
Then Saturday in London Town
Delighting in showing her 'round
I'd never seen her smiling
But now it is beguilling

I'm just so pleased we're now friends

Perhaps with loud wedding bells apealing
And then I just had to wake up
Now knowing it's what I make up
None if it's real but that's too sad
It had all made me feel so glad
So now I visit park and zoo
