When I Pray

When I close my eyes to pray

What's the first thing that I say?

Do I start by asking You for something new

Or thank You for what You've already done today?

You gave me breath in my lungs

A sunrise through the rain

You gave me love that never runs out

And peace I can't explain

Sometimes I forget it

How blessed I really am

But grace keeps pulling me closer

Back into Your hands

So, thank You, Lord, for the morning light

For every wrong You made right

For the heart that beats inside my chest

For the days that put my faith to test

Thank You, Lord, when I don't understand

You're still working all things by Your plan

So, I'll lift my voice and softly say

Thank You, Lord, when I close my eyes to pray

When I pray for strength to come

You don't always take the pain

Sometimes You let the battle stay

To show me what faith remains

And when I pray for healing hands

And You call someone home to stay

I'll still believe You're good and kind

Even when You move that way

You're the calm inside my chaos

The peace in all my doubt

And even when my voice is shaking

That's still what prayers about

So, thank You, Lord, for the morning light

For every wrong You made right

For the love that holds me through the pain

For the sunshine after rain

Thank You, Lord, when I don't understand

You're still working all things by Your plan

So, I'll lift my heart and softly say

Thank You, Lord, when I close my eyes to pray

You are good when the night is long

You are truth when I'm not strong

You are peace when I'm falling apart

You are home inside my heart

Thank You, Lord, for the breath I breathe

For every soul You've given me

For love that lives beyond my days

For mercy that won't fade away

Thank You, Lord, for another day

Thank You, Lord, for showing me grace

I'll rest in Your arms and gently say
