Love Is a Cross You Bear - Randy Vanwarmer
Deep down in Texas
Some years ago
There was a poor preacher
I came to know
He'd been doing God's work
Most of his life
What he was known
For most was his wife
She was as pretty as she was wild
She gave him no comfort
She gave him no child
She set him no table
She baked him no bread
And once when I asked
Him about it he said
Love is a cross you bear
A Thorny crown you wear
I ain't no saint I never was
But brother she knows
Not what she does
Love is a cross you bear
Soon I moved on and
Soon I lost track
But night in Denver
It all came back
In a beautiful church
With a melodious choir
There he was preaching
His brimstone and fire
And then this angel
That I'd seen before
Came out and joined him
In his holy war
She looked at her husband
As the bell rang
She lifted her angelic
Voice up and sang
Love is a cross you bear
A Thorny crown you wear
Once I was lost but now I'm found
Once I was weak and let love down
Love is a cross you bear
As I left that church
Amazed as can be
Great revelation
Came unto me
All of the good things
This life is made of
The best is the sweat
From the labor of love
Love is a cross you bear
A Thorny crown you wear
Sinner repent and make amends
Love has been dying for your sins
Love is a cross you bear
