When you see five happy apes
And each one has four yummy grapes,
How can you tell how many grapes there are in all? You can add up four plus four plus four

The sum is twenty grapes,
But there's another way to go...
You can use multiplication,
It's a different way to add.

When you learn it, you'll be glad!
And so it's five times four
You still get twenty! My, oh my!
Instead of adding repeatedly,
You multiply!
There are six eggs in each carton
And suppose you're buying three.
Well, three times six is eighteen eggs.
Just count ‘em and you'll see!
And four times three makes twelve big pigs
Inside a farmer's pen.
You've got five fingers on each hand,
And two times five makes ten!
Yes, it's multiplication!
That little “x” means “times”!
Three times five makes fifteen ice cream cones
Or basketballs or limes!
You could add up five plus five plus five,
But here's a thing to try—
Instead of adding repeatedly,
You multiply!
