I chased their dreams I wore their praise
I lit their skies with my own blaze
But now I stare and cannot tell
If this is mine or theirs as well
Each yes I gave erased a line—
Until I couldn’t name what’s mine
I smiled I served I did not stray—
And slowly gave my self away
But dreams are seeds that bloom alone
Not copies carved from borrowed tone
And now I till my truest land—
To grow a life that fits my hand
So if I say I don’t yet know
What path to walk which wind to go—
Please let me pause and choose with grace
To make my dream a softer place
