Early light, the faintest sights, the pathway emerging
Steps retraced, day’s embrace, unsure what remains
Hope against my hopes I’ll find what was left so far behind
Still my heart, it beats in time. All I want is peace of mind
At the scene I cast my gaze, a changed land, a new place
No recall, day retreats, a sign I must go
Wait a while, suspended light, the sweet air surrounds me
Passing fast, losing chance, to recall my goal
People pass, a blur, so fast. I am slow, I try to know
What I thought, I hope I’d find, what it was I left behind?
Children play, they race the day, I look on in silence
Stand to leave, falling leaves, they dance as I go
Hope against the dying light. Mind a haze, a losing fight
Still the clock, I wish for time
Hours grow while I’m resigned
Night arrives, home I return, my offering is empty
What is was, what it brought, I never will know
