Took his meds he put the kids to bed
Before he stepped outside he grabbed a light
To smoke one more nights last cigarette
Had always wanted to quit but he’d never tried
He took a drag and then he threw it away
And then he thought to himself oh he thought that one day
He’d have something to say
Like we’re all born a slave to our to our god to our minimum wage
Never said this was easy
Feel so ungrateful to complain
God I hope that you believe me

Saw the horizon felt the heat of the night
Felt the warmth of the moon
As he bathed in its light
His eyes filled with tears as he reached the stairs
On a twelve foot walk off a ten foot pier
When he came to there was nobody there
The light burned his eyes as he breathed in the air
He thought to himself how this life is so strange
All this time spent on earth
Is just proof of the pain
Never said this was easy
