I woke beneath a lily leaf
Morning rain touched all the reeds
Tiny ripples crossed the water
This little pond was all I knew
I learned the insects in the sky
I learned the moon upon the water
Every night a voice would call
Another voice would answer back
Same little pond
Different rain
Same old moon
Different day
Croak to the left
Croak to the right
Round and round
We fill the night
Summer brought a thousand songs
Every frog a different tone
Some sang high and some sang low
Still the pond became one song
Then the summer rain came hard
My favorite stone disappeared
I found another place to rest
And waited without fear
Same little pond
Different rain
Same old moon
Different day
One voice faded into silence
Spring brought someone new to sing
Water never stopped its circles
Life kept moving with the rain
Now I rest beside the reeds
Watching young frogs leap and play
I sing softly to the moon
This little pond has been my world
