THE LONG HAUL THROUGH HELL (OUTLAW COUNTRY) - Levi Stoker
Eighteen wheels humming on the blacktop seam
Hauling diesel and a broken down dream
Rain pounding hard on the chrome plated grill
Climbing up the grade of a dark southern hill
Dashboard glowing with a faint orange light
Two hundred miles from the dead of the night
Thermos full of black coffee cold as the floor
Thinking about the bills stacking up at my door
I left my youth back in Birmingham town
Trading all my metal just to keep the wheels around
The road stretches long through the pine tree shade
Counting every sacrifice that my family made
I look into the mirror at the red in my eyes
Holding on to hope on the thunderstorm skies
It's the long haul through hell but I'm keeping the wheel
Forged in the fire and bound up in steel
They can break down the road they can flood out the track
But there ain't a storm on earth that can make me turn back
My back might be aching and my wallet runs thin
But I'm driving through the valley till the sun breaks in
Yeah I'm taking the long haul through hell
And I'm coming out a winner in the end
Past an old church with a rusty tin roof
Preacher on the side talking about the holy proof
I said a little prayer through the tobacco smoke
For the weary hard-headed workers and the ones who went broke
I ain't driving for glory I ain't driving for fame
Just trying to keep a roof and an honest man's name
The asphalt is brutal but my spirit is tough
Made of red dirt iron and a soul made of rough
It's the long haul through hell but I'm keeping the wheel
Forged in the fire and bound up in steel
They can break down the road they can flood out the track
But there ain't a storm on earth that can make me turn back
My back might be aching and my wallet runs thin
But I'm driving through the valley till the sun breaks in
Yeah I'm taking the long haul through hell
And I'm coming out a winner in the end
Let the rain pour down let the tires squeal
There ain't a load too heavy for a soul that's real
Through the valley of the shadow through the soot and the dark
I'm gonna keep on rolling till I see that spark
It's the long haul through hell but I'm keeping the wheel
Forged in the fire and bound up in steel
They can break down the road they can flood out the track
But there ain't a storm on earth that can make me turn back
My back might be aching and my wallet runs thin
But I'm driving through the valley till the sun breaks in
Yeah I'm taking the long haul through hell
And I'm coming out a winner in the end
Keep the pedal down
Through the fire
Long haul through hell
Still driving
