We carried on until the dust filled our weary eyes
We pulled into a place
Where strangers are a strange surprise
"Excuse me sir"
I said,"could you help me on my way?"
But the look that I received told me
That I couldn't stay
I finished up my drink quick
And I headed for the door
When a voice from the corner cried"hey boy
Wait a minute more"
"It's plain for me to see
You've been on the road such a while
So stay for just one glass
See if it can't make you smile"
But like the fool I am
I took him for his word
My mind got strangled
And my vision got blurred
On the roadside, in a ditch
Without a stitch, I was found
And I wouldn't so much mind the indignity
If I didn't have 95 miles in front of me
