The morning subway breathes into the wind
Bitter coffee mixes with the scent of dreams
I stare at myself in the shop window glass
Half-asleep, yet still trying to hold on and pass
The small window of my rented room
Faces the city’s fading light and gloom
Some rush downstairs in a hurried trance
Some wander lost in life’s endless dance
Sometimes I miss home but dare not call
Afraid “How are you?” will make my tears fall
The city’s lights shine too bright, too long
They blind the far-off path, yet stir my unrest strong
I gaze beneath neon’s shadowy haze
Longing for the old streetlamp of my distant days
The city’s lights hold both bitter and sweet
Guiding wanderers from losing their feet
Though lonely, I’ve learned to stand strong and tall
Far from home, I live as hope’s own call
Only one light left on the late-night street
Even rented dreams demand a price to keep
Who says adult life can simply turn back
To the place where we used to lack
I hide my unspoken mood and pain
In the glow of overtime’s endless reign
“I’m doing fine” is what I always say
A peace I save for tomorrow’s new day
Sometimes I’m too busy to find my way
Yet my feet keep walking, even with no one to applaud or stay
The city’s lights shine too bright, too long
They blind the far-off path, yet stir my unrest strong
I gaze beneath neon’s shadowy haze
Longing for the old streetlamp of my distant days
The city’s lights hold both bitter and sweet
Guiding wanderers from losing their feet
Though lonely, I’ve learned to stand strong and tall
Far from home, I live as hope’s own call
We all walk through mist and foggy haze
Learning to smile and let old worries fade
A little kindness left in this world’s cold embrace
Can light up every future’s dark space
The city’s lights shine too bright, too long
They blind the far-off path, yet stir my unrest strong
But I know there’s a direction I must trace
Someday I’ll reach the place where my dreams embrace
