If The Wind Will Catch My Name

Well they’re cutting back the roses

Down to their thorny spines

I got a feeling this winter ain’t gonna be kind

After the morning rush

There’s a stillness of time

In the garden where the gravel trail serpentines

I came here looking for the words

To scale the walls of my mind

Kids are playing hopscotch

Colouring the dusty grey

Before the rain comes down and washes the chalk away

While a cloud overhead

Slowly expands

Like a firework blowing up frame by frame

Right now I ain’t too fussed

If the wind will catch my name

Another day to send you under

You gotta keep in the game

Or else

Sometimes I grieve for the things that I’ll never know

But my mama told me

That’s just the way it goes

Baby bird carving out circles in the dirt

Swinging her body around

Engraving herself in the earth

So blissfully unaware

The shovel buries any remain

So the lilac can rise like a burning flame
