The Bird Behind the Drapes

One trip to Amsterdam

4 trips around the sun

Has it really been that long?

Since your name was on my tongue?

Down at the grocery mart

I pray I see your mom

Cause if I could get back to the place

The place where you came from

Think I could bring you back

Body and soul intact

You be the bird behind the drapes

I’ll be the magician

Get to the gig on time

Play all the notes you like

I put your full name on the list

I keep the doorman in my sight

I should be used to it

I’m not new to loneliness

And waking up to find the kitchen

In its emptiness

Your heart and soul unmatched

God could you have spared me half

You be the girl inside the crate

I’ll be the magician

I would wait all night

Glass eyed

By the back door like the way we did

Meet me at midnight

Crack me up good like the way you did
