When I first encountered loss
I couldn’t imagine feeling joy again
And then one of the things that’s your mind does
Is try to tell you you shouldn’t experience
Or feel joy agin given your loss
There is a genuine feeling that
It dishonours the one you are longing for
How could we ever be happy again without them?
The writer CS Lewis describes that
With that happiness comes at once a sort of shame
And feeling that one is under a sort of obligation
To cherish and prolong one’s unhappiness’
But then I realised why?
Why cant our joy honour them?
Why can’t our joy be also what marks our life without them
Not forced
Not avoidant
Just honest, defiant joy mingled in with the sorrow
Just both
Equally valid
Equally real
It is well
With my soul
It is well
It is well
With my soul
It is well
With my soul
It is well
It is well
With my soul
With my soul
