I used to drink fluids that made me think I was driving
Behind a force field
And nothing could hurt me nothing could hurt me
And no one can hurt me
See I wasn't afraid of myself
But I thought if I crashed my body
Then I could just turn it off and back on again
And no one could hurt me
And I did
But at that point didn't care if I lived
So no one could hurt me
And if no one could hurt me
Then no one could help me
And if no one could help me
But I still had my force field
See I wasn't afraid of the pain
But I thought if I tried my hardest
Then you'd just see what'd happen
And take my mistakes away
But it wasn't true
You were no better at helping than me
And so I felt nothing
And hurting was nothing
And everyday someone or nobody
Hurt me
And I didn't know what to say
So I said how's the weather
Long pauses and sad faces
Is how we'd all get over
Being so terribly hurt all the time
It wasn't true
I tried to make myself believe it but knew
You're different but you're really
Not all that different
Even if you can never know me
Someone will
So if it wasn't you
If everyone else's exposure was skewed
If you never got close enough to see me
I could always be saved by someone else
Mom caught me I don't know how
I promised I'd put myself back together
Again
But it was a promise
And don't you remember making promises
See I don't get hurt
So I don't know what to say to you
When you tell me how sad it gets
When you say I'm not how I used to be
And what do I yell at if it's not you
And I know that I'm not all that hard
I know I'm older but I'm not that smart
I don't know whether or if I can help you
I never get hurt and I don't think that's true
But when can you tell who really loves you
