they came back in to your work again / and they offered you a job / said “you’re far too smart and beautiful / to wait tables at a restaurant” / here’s a golden opportunity / here’s your future / it’s a fattened calf / it’s your golden ticket out of here / “will you meet us out for lunch?”
it’s a ladder not a pyramid / we’ll pull you up a rung / you’ll be the base of our foundation here / we’re only building up
(we have come that you might have life more abundantly)
or take some work down at the hospital / get some stupid hero’s job / help some catatonic woman on the trauma floor / who got eaten by her dogs
give to caesar next to nothing / give to jesus when you can / give to people if you feel like it / if you like the way it feels / in the beginning there was man / and it’s god’s plan to thrive
so try a little harder now / for you and you alone / use your bible selling vitamins / from the comfort of your home / and you’re only at the bottom now / because there’s no one down below / so go forth and find your own you / now go forth and find your own
then one day sit beside the throne with us / smiling when the crowd arrives / to our fiefdom by the coastline / by the waters of lake michigan / and an overflowing cup / toast your riches with jesus’ blood / (for the work we’ve done)
but before you get there hear me / there are levels you must reach / for the cars along the driveway parked / and a boat docked by a beach house / there are products that you need to buy / and it’s way more than you think you’ll need / believe and receive it all / (to provide and guide you)
but if you fail to meet the goals you set / if you try and fail to thrive / and the bank comes for your house at night / it’s good for you to downsize / move to an apartment now / find more people to supply / we were promised abundant lives / (it’s god’s plan)
and if you fail to make the rent again / have you even really tried? / draw circles for your church group / pitch that girl down at the restaurant / when the landlord calls the sheriff in / and you’ve nowhere left to go / just go forth and find your own you / now go forth and find your own
burn your riches on the day you die / pray to jesus up above / no camel passes through the needle’s eye / and you’re running out of time
no yachts will drift off when the rapture comes
