This is the quiet after the war
The dust has settled on the floor
I look at all the broken things
The shattered glass the fallen kings
The ghost I was the crimes I bore
They don't scream inside me anymore
They're just a part of this quiet scene
A faded and a haunted dream
I take a ribbon soft and worn
The colour of a sky at morn
I don't to tie it tight you see
To bind the past or set it free
Just let it hold with gentle sway
The light and dark of every day
The perfect junior and the pawn
The love that waited for the dawn
And I forgive you
I forgive me
Not because it's right or wrong
But because we carried on
This ribbon isn't for the pain
It's for the rain…that grew the grain…
It's just a thread a simple thing
That learned to hold…everything
So let it flow this ribbon now
Across my shoulder on my brow
A reminder soft and deep
That I have promises to keep
Not to the world not to the dead
But to the voice inside my head
That says"Just breathe the fight is through"
"The view is beautiful…from here…"
And I forgive you
I forgive me
Not because it's right or wrong
But because we carried on
This ribbon isn't for the pain
It's for the rain…that grew the grain…
It's just a thread a simple thing
That learned to hold…everything
The ribbon holds…
It just…holds
