i know that you hate new year's eve

but i still kindof like it

i know it's all so arbitrary

but i still get over-excited

for the possibilities

and the fireworks

it's just some noises and some lights

but they make my brain feel alright

so you can go to bed early

i'll stay up for a few more drinks

i'll listen to jet black new year

then join you for not enough sleep

and if we're woken up

by people walking back home

as long as they sound like they're having a good time

then we don't ever really mind

listen to the drunk people sing

a lullaby to another year passing

(we don't have to wait 'til december)

(to have ourselves a night to remember)

(we don't have to stay up 'til midnight)

(we can count down to any time we like)
