Bless the Train - Leah Kaufman
Composed by:Leah Susan Kaufman
One small suitcase tucked next to her knees
Tied up with tape and twine
One change of clothes and a letter that reads
Won't you please come home
'Cause we miss you love
No matter how hard you drove
We want you to always know
There's something God loves about a south-bound train
The rails softly singing a midnight refrain
Saying troubles stay behind don't you follow me down
God bless the train that's south-bound
Her weary face stares back from the glass
As rain paints the passing town
No guarantee she'll be someone they know
At the station when she steps down
So much dust and dismay
Between then and now
When a curtain closed off that room
There's something God loves about a south-bound train
The rails softly singing a midnight refrain
Saying troubles stay behind don't you follow me down
God bless the train that's south-bound
She knows riding this train and running back home
Won't fix things that she broke
She remembers that night there was no more to say
All her bridges in ashes and smoke
Her bedspread is still the same soft pink plaid
The music box dancers still twirl
The room feels like a dress she's outgrown
But insists it still fits this girl
Through the thin windowpane
She hears a train call
Something sings back from deep inside
There's something God loves about a south-bound train
The rails softly singing a midnight refrain
Saying troubles stay behind don't you follow me down
God bless the train that's south-bound
God bless the train hmmm
