Floating Toward the Light - Bao Binh
Down the river through the weeds
Tiny soul with secret needs
Caught in lilies soft and slow
Drifting where no one would know
One hand reaching through the green
A battered tub, a gentle scene
Everyone thought life was gone
But then that baby laughed at dawn
The crowd stood still, the hush was deep
Until the cheers began to leap
She belongs to you, they said
Raise her well and keep her fed
And though his hands were rough and bare
He found the strength to truly care
Alone he stood, but not afraid
A promise through the years he made
Floating toward the light
On a river dark as night
He gave her all he had
In every smile, in every fight
No blood between their names
Yet love still burned the same
Floating toward the light
He became her heart, her flame
Years went by, she grew strong
With lullabies and quiet songs
He worked his hands down to the bone
And never let her feel alone
Each time she called him dad so true
The tired man would feel brand new
Through rainy nights and burning days
He led her through life's tangled maze
Still he watched the river bend
Dreamed of the one who'd never send
A single word, a face to see
But held that silence quietly
Floating toward the light
On a river dark as night
He gave her all he had
In every hug, in every right
Those stories left unsaid
And pasts were filled with dread
Floating toward the light
He loved beyond the thread
Then one day came a boat so slow
A woman lost in long ago
Her eyes were wet, her voice was low
I was too weak to let her go
But love can mend the years we've lost
And sorrow pays its deepest cost
She took her hand not with regret
But with a love she'd never met
Floating toward the light
With hearts reborn in sight
They stood as free, not two
Forgiveness in the fading blue
This house may not be grand
But love will always stand
Floating toward the light
Together hand in hand
Come by someday, she said again
Our home is small but full of flame
Floating
Floating
The light
