Drained of all the excess

Start slipping through a crack

Showing up to work late

Slippin' out to take one back

You get blind and happy and a little banged up

Falling down in the alleyway

Pockets picked out clean

I couldn’t thank them for not waking me

Never mind never mind I don’t mind

Told myself no friends, no allies

You either do

Or you don't

Me I can't do anything

Without doing everything else first

You get tired of lying about the little mistakes

Forego all the pageantry

No one's ever handed you a script

Now they judge your delivery

This way seems further than the rest

The ground is so far from forgiving

That shortcut was short of living

I hear what you say how back in the day

I know you got torn apart

Picking up the pieces is too hard

And I hate feeling like you wish

That you could wake up somewhere else

If you could just get some sleep

Grind out some forgotten dream

Scratch through one more day

Meantime we’re just dulling down our senses
