International politics talks about the country of afghanistan
Afghanistan is a very powerful country known as the graveyard of empires
No empire has ever been able to get out of this place
The united kingdom the soviet union and the united states have all suffered great losses here
Amazing isn't it
But there is another way of looking at this fact
In fact afghanistan itself was shaped by the great game between britain and russia in the nineteenth century
Sarest russia wanted to go south and britain wanted to go north
And both sides eventually found that the limits of their power lay in the mountainous region of afghanistan
So both sides simply compromised and created a buffer state in this part of the world
Which is now the kingdom of afghanistan
So it was not that afghanistan became the graveyard of empires because it was particularly powerful but that it was itself the limit of an empire's power
By the same token some challenges are intermountable not because they are particularly difficult
But because they are the limits of human ingenuity
In casinos for example it is useless to try and one should not go there at all
