The Good Part

Can wait until it's cool

Six o'clock and the heat let go

Somebody hosed the pavement down

That smell of water hitting stone

Better than anything I own

Wet hair, open window

Standing in the only moving air

Arms cooling off one at a time

Back of my neck first

This part's free

Always has been

This is the good part

Air just turned, you can feel it

Everything I said I'd do

Can wait until it's cool

This is the good part

Costs nothing, comes every night

Room's gone quiet in a good way

Even the traffic sounds far off

Kettle's cold, I'm not making anything

Toast at nine sounds about right

Every window on the block is open

Forty people doing exactly this

Somebody's laughing two floors down

Good to know it's going around

Breeze comes in and turns the page

Of a book I'll get to eventually

Streetlights coming on one at a time

Sun's not even all the way down

This is the good part

Air just turned, you can feel it

Everything I said I'd do

Can wait until it's cool

This is the good part

Same time tomorrow, I'll be here

This is the good part

Air just turned

Costs nothing

Comes every night
