I put oil on our fire
Just a drop every night
'Cause I get scared of what'll happen
If it doesn't stay alight
And at this stage it only flickers
And it leaves me feeling torn
'Cause to have it is so comforting
But it doesn't keep me warm
And I think back to the days
When it would blaze all on it's own
It's such a haze in many ways
But I remember it felt like home
And I've tried to be real careful
Making sure the flame sticks around
But deep down I know well
It's better off letting it just go out
I put oil on our fire
Try to make it a little stronger
Try to make it a little brighter
Make it last just a little longer
Oh I guess that if it has to wilt away so soon so be it
It's sad that we had everything
But simply didn't see it
'Cause it was beautiful y'know
Oh it would melt the coldest snow
And it was red and blue and gold
And somehow it didn't show that it was fading
And now I'm trying to figure out if it's worth saving

That our flame is dead
But we play pretend
That we don't know
