In youth I knew not how fleeting was the spring
Plucking blossoms and squandering the daylight
Believing prime years would never cease to bloom
A lone leaf of a boat drifted into misty expanses wide
Turning back ten thousand towering peaks had slipped behind
Through half a lifetime wading three rivers deep
I drank both murky waters and the clear
Only then learning sweetness and sorrow brew into fine wine
A solitary lamp catches the rustling rain on the parasol trees
In the chill of a stranger's night I see how frivolous youth once was
The past cannot be mended yet the future can be won!
The storms of wind and snow traded for my youth
All blossom into plum blossoms at my temples gray
The mire trampled through in tears the moon scooped up in smiles
Riding long winds to break the waves toward the boundless sea
Never again shall I lower my brow!
The mountain mist lingers slow before it clears
Green moss overgrows the paths of old
At leisure I entrust my thoughts to quiet boughs
The garden of peaches and plums planted by my own hands back then
Through cycles of withering and flourish
Now bears young green fruits tart and full of life
Running waters contest no lead yet merge into wide rivers vast
Fallen leaves cling not to the branch nourishing the warm spring earth
Half a lifetime's turbulence strained into the clarity of pure tea
For the road ahead I shall take my leisurely strides
The past cannot be mended yet the future can be won!
The storms of wind and snow traded for my youth
All blossom into plum blossoms at my temples gray
The mire trampled through in tears the moon scooped up in smiles
Riding long winds to break the waves toward the boundless sea
Never again shall I lower my brow!
Clouds drift aimlessly from peaks afar
Weary birds wing-tired know when to return home
Days to come are full of promise the twilight glow brings calm
A cup of warm tea a window framing distant mountains
Across this journey
Heaven and earth rest complete and whole
