Hello, Street Cat

Late-night lamplight

Empty avenue glow

Footsteps echo in a hush so slow

Then a pair of emerald eyes appears

Tiny paws tip-tap

Brushing off my fears

Stray jazz drifts from a window afar

While moonlight polishes

Your whiskered radar

Hello, street cat, nice to meet you

Midnight friend in velvet shoes

Hello, street cat, share this moment

Silent city sings for two

You circle once, decide my ankle is safe

Tail like question marks, soft and brave

I offer crumbs of a day-old roll

You answer back

With a head-bump soul

Trolley wires hum above our heads

Sidewalk turns into feather beds

Hello, street cat, nice to meet you

Midnight friend in velvet shoes

Hello, street cat, share this moment

Silent city sings for two

Morning will steal you

To alleys unknown

But tonight every purr feels like home

If tomorrow you roam a different road

I'll keep this meow as a secret code

Hello, street cat, nice to meet you

Midnight friend in velvet shoes

Hello, street cat, share this moment

Silent city sings for two

Streetlights fade, dawn paints the sky

You vanish quick as a lullaby

Good-bye, street cat

Till our paths collide
