Cherry Summer Dress

A flower in you hair

A cherry summer dress in southern England

The hay fever’s got me

But you won’t stop laughing cuz I can’t stop sneezing

I’m stealing more than a kiss in the lighthouse roof

We took a boat from the coast just for this view

But I’ve seen enough of this world to know

There’s nothing I’d rather look at than you so

I take you down to the end of the beach and we lie in the sand

You fall asleep on my chest in the rain and

For a minute it all made sense

Cuz I fell in love with my best friend

Happy songs have always come so hard

But if I had to write one this is where I’d start

A high school party ends

A cherry summer dress in my parent’s backyard

Everyone was leaving, but you and I kept drinking

Lying in the grass looking for the pictures in the stars

You pull that old Nano out and we share the wire

You’re playing John and it’s got me on the Edge of Desire

Wanted to kiss you but I was afraid

Cuz nothing thats worth it isn’t worth the wait

And I was 17 but seeing us at 72

My whole life feeling like deja vu and

For a minute it all made sense

I was falling in love with my best friend

A flower in you hair

A cherry summer dress in southern England

The hay fever’s got me

And you won’t stop laughing

And I can’t stop dreaming, I can’t stop dreaming about you
