In dawn’s pink light I crack open
Sweet surprise of morning dew —
Sun-gilded and contemplative
My heart is bitter bright and new
Seeds of joy and memory swirl
Sweet strands of acid truth unfurl
Drunk on day and heavy with light
I root in earth I take flight
Oh how simple is this miracle —
A rind of wonder grateful and full
I am fractal sunlight and pull
Each sip a universe unspooling
Through veins of juice lightning drips
Every pore a language of tips
Petals of fire in flesh-kissed dawn
I’m flesh of the sun seed of song
Chlorophyll veins trace my skin
A biosphere blooming within
With every pulse I reshuffle
Time to a slower sweeter shuffle
Oh how simple is this miracle —
A rind of wonder grateful and full
I am fractal sunlight and pull
Each sip a universe unspooling
Squeeze out sorrow release the tears —
A cosmic field unfurls near here
Gravity succumbs to my glow;
I orbit kindness wherever I go
In the whisper of peel and pop
I find the music and never stop —
Bees hum my story gentle and warm
Honeycomb echoes a borrowed form
Oh how simple is this miracle —
A rind of wonder grateful and full
I am fractal sunlight and pull
Each sip a universe unspooling
Now I’m a grateful grapefruit awash in light
Holding winters and summers in segments tight
Grateful pulp of a wandering soul —
In fruit’s sweet embrace I am whole
