Amateur Hour

Amateur hour,

singing in your low-cut cowboy dress

with your sparklers and your lipstick smeared

for your little baby boy.

If I say you're trying too hard

would it make you try much harder,

or would you do what you always do

just smile and take a bow.

Amateur hour,

jumping through a real live wedding ring

to the other side with your family plot

to save the whole wide world.

If you say I'm thinking too much

would it make me think much different,

or would I say what I always say

I'll muddle through somehow.

I'd never say you're wrong

but still I think you're wrong to believe that this

might change your life, change your life.

If I say you're trying too hard

would it make you try much harder,

or would you do what you always do

just smile and take a bow.
