A grocery store was almost empty
When I stopped in after work
I bought bread, a bottle of milk
And flowers
I didn't really need
A girl behind the counter
Said they wouldn't last too long
I told her that's all right
And carried them home anyway

Things look softer somehow
The life I thought I'd lost
Is starting to feel like mine

I put the flowers by the window
In a glass I found upstairs
Made something simple for dinner
And ate it standing there

From someone we both knew
I read it once, then locked my phone
And went back to what I was doing

That would have ruined my night
