Golden Parachute

Your blanket disregard for truth is not the same

as my indifference when you go down in flames

playing your MAGA games

My son's creativity is not the same

as your ADHD or any of your false claims

please just refain

My euphoria is not the same

as your drug-induced exctacy

or the ensuing shame and the blame

Your vicious tweet is not the same

as my anguished cry at night

alone on the train

And then you say

Golden parachute

open wide

Golden parachute

see you on the other side, suckers

I'll take you for a ride

Your casual lie is not the same

as me giving in without a fight

to outrageous claims

Your need for Corenthian Leather is not the same

as my need for a coat in cold weather

against the driving rain

Your big score in Wall Street is not the same

as the dollar I earned on my feet

when the COVID came

Your golden parachute is not the same

as a drained retirement account

and nothing to show but an insurance claim

And then you say

Golden parachute

open wide

Golden parachute

see you on the other side, suckers

I'll take you for a ride

Your state sponsored repression is not the same

as my self-discipline and self-care

to not go insane

Your white genocide is not the same

as my diversity

for people in love and pain

Your cop-filled lockdown is not the same

as a world of freedom

without fear or shame

and no one to blame

And you still say

Golden parachute

open wide

Golden parachute

see you on the other side, suckers

I'll take you for a ride, take you for a ride
