Sometimes friends have a special song that means something to them and only them for a dog and robot in the animated film robot dreams

It's an earth winen fire song september do you remember

When dy the song first appears as the robot and dog are walking through central park in new york city dancing together

While on roller sktes they become a star attraction in a huge crowd gathers around them

The film is based on a graphic novel of the same named by syreviron

The follows a story of a lonely dog

Who buys a builded yourself robot to keep him company

The film robot dreams premired at con film festival last year

And has just come out in featers this weekend

Its director bobllow bear hair joins us now welcome to the program

Hi ah my pleasure to be talking with you about my baby

Robel dreams

Oh Yes It's

It's a beautiful movie

Ah now the graphic marvel didn't come with a soundtrack

So so

Why did you choose that earth win and fire song to define the friendship of the dog and the robot

Yes

When i wrote the script

I wanted to have roler dancing in central park

And i needed a fanky disco upbeat song from then you know late seventies

Early eighties and straight to my head came september

And it was a very obvious

Because the stories starts in september

And the film ends in september of the following year

So we realize what if you becomes thetheum

And

And how did you discover the book

Robot dreams

And why did you decide to make a movie about it

I found it

Because i collect wordless graphic novels and

And children's books

And immediately felling love with the book

But i just put it on the shelf of my graphic novels

Because up to now ii making life action films and in two thousand eighteen

I took it out of the shelf

And this time when i read it

When i got to the end of the book

I was so deeply move

I was in tears in those eight years

From the first time i read the book to the two thousand eighteen

My best friend stop in my best friend

I lost my mother

I thought about relations that i had in the past

And i said

Wow

If the book has made this impact on me

If i make a film out of it

I'm really sure

That the audience are 're going to make their own sustitutions and think about their loved ones

That they are not with them anymore

So you collect graphic novels and children's books without dialogue

And i know you did a silent film before attribute to the silent movie air

And then this one robot dreams doesn't have dialogue

Either do you have something against dialogue

Or is it something that you're getting out of not having the dialogue

That's

That's right the basealis storytelling that's what pure cinema is

It is for me and in a way

I feel like a cinematic terrorist

You know i like to tell other filmake ers dialogue be tekay

But we cannot forget what make cinema a unique way of telling a story ies by by using images

And

And that's what i enjoy the most till stories

We thought even one word of dialogue

And does the case of robot dream as well

And you know usually with film interviews for our show

We play a clipper two of dialogue

Because this is a dialogue free film can we watch seen together

And we're narraate for

For disteners like as we're 're going pick one near the the beginning

It's a scene and central park

And the dog and robot watch a group of school keds

I mean well young animals in the movie walking down a path holding hands

But what happens next we see dog

Robot wooking on the central park

Dog is like looking at everything

At the

At the trees

At the birds

And suddenly sees a group of his school kids with their teachers

There and he sees that two a little folks on their bear

They are holding hands and at that moment

He looks at the dog and looks at his hand

And then grabps the hand right and dog screams

Because robot is very pushing

Because has and very hard and dog heheurts

But dog knows that robot didn't mean to hurt him

And

And this is okay

If robot wants to hold the hand

I'm going to hold the hand

And then they

They leave the screen like is a charlie teplin movie

And they are walking away

Is one of my favorite little scenes in the film

Um

Well you know now that you describe it that way

I feel like it gits to a deeper meaning in a in the movie

And seems to be a about intent

Like how someone can hurt you

But it's not intentional

Well ii like your interpetion now and i think life is like that you know i think sometimes people hurt us

And they really didn't know they we didn't mean

And i think forgivenvenss ss one one this forforgivenalities and selective memory how we we remember the good things

And we forget the bad things

Ii think is very important to to look forward yeah

And carres the memories

That people that touch us in our lives

This film really make me think a lot about relations

And people that i met in the past

That they're not with me anymore

Who do you think was lonely the the robot or the dog in this movie

Well ii think how the film stars is once upon the time in new york city

There was a lonely dog in the

In a railroad apartment

In the is lage playing ying alone video game

How sad could it wave

And then he just hits up atv dinner

The microwave

And then he channel serves and then he hes up some neighbors 可以下a couple having fun

You know i was a lonely dog in new york

I live in new york for a long time

So i can

I think many people can relate we had moments in our life

That we

We feel that a little bit miserable

Because we didn't have anybody to share and robot

I think the robot personality is just like of course he can be sometimes lonely

But there's something about robot

That he's such a positive thinking character

And also one of the miszing things about robots

That he uses dreams to overcome his loneless to dream it really helps to feel not lonely in his case

This is a film about two best friends

But there is also aa deep message about loss and moving on and longing and letting go

And as an adult i have a hard time with that let tting go stuff

I'm like no ii not given them away

But

But it need a film

Others i no go

你放不完

Yeah

No i love how how you reacted to the film

You know no

Yes

That's the way

That's the kind of i made it for you

I shall

Because there's the kind of audience

That i like

Like active audience

Do you think this is for kids or adults many

Or that even a question that you thought about

You know there's a prejudice is about animation

You know they think that many you know the the audience

Even the film critics

They think there's for kids

And of course they're animation for kids

But there are animation for this film as a director

I want the widest possible audience

The film is like alasasnia

He has lalayers

And i think the pen of you know the age your experience

You know you get your own layer

And i think that's interesting about cinemize just like the audience complete the film that's poablow bear hair director of the animated future robot dreams out and theaters now thank you so much for joining us

Thank you

I say was a pleasure to talk with you about robot dreams
