We met in homeroom, Tuesday rain
You shared your pencil, eased my pain
Of being new here, all alone
That simple gesture built our home
We claimed our lockers, side by side
Through every class we'd run and hide
From boring lectures, silly rules
Two rebels building their own schools
Oh, we were partners in every crime
Staying up till the morning light
Doing homework, sharing dreams
Laughing loud by the library streams
Cheating tests with a secret sign
Your answer"B" became mine
Through every season, sun or snow
Best friends only the young could know
Graduation came too fast
Our future rushing from the past
We hugged so tight in caps and gowns
Promised to never let go down
But the tassel turned, the photos framed
All our laughter gently tamed
By different roads we had to take
One last wave at the exit gate
Oh, we were partners in every crime
Staying up till the morning light
Doing homework, sharing dreams
Laughing loud by the library streams
Cheating tests with a secret sign
Your answer"B" became mine
Through every season, sun or snow
Best friends only the young could know
Now your number's in my phone
But the texts stay cold as stone
Scrolling pictures, faded grins
Can't replace the warmth within
'Cause pixels can't hold what eyes convey
The silence screams since you went away
We're brave pretending we're alright
But nothing beats your living light
So I walk past our old school gate
Wishing on stars that came too late
That someday when the autumn calls
We'll meet again in these same halls
Where lockers held our secrets deep
And promises we couldn't keep...
Except this one: I'll wait for you
In these same hallways, forever true
