Carol / not carol

carol likes the way the light looks

when its heating up the dash

playing poker in the evenings

she says we could use the extra cash

and I'm glad we skipped the winter

things were starting to feel small

it's not the same when they don't need ya

it's not the same at all

I'm sorry that I wrecked our car

was hoping that you wouldn't notice

but the road is strewn with playing cards

looks like they're gonna have to tow it

and I think I've broken both my arms

the road is closed in both directions

there must have been some kind of god

looking in the rear view mirror

you never know quite when your time's up

I always thought it'd be that storm

that ripped the salt bush from the red dirt

and pulled the hinges from the doors

and how we got between two road trains

to protect us from the wind

how them drivers kept us steady

so we made it out the other end

now I'm sorry that I wrecked our car

was hoping that you wouldn't notice

but the road is strewn with playing cards

looks like they're gonna have to tow it

and I think I've broken both my arms

the road is closed in both directions

there must have been some kind of god

looking in the rear view mirror

turn both lanes into a runway

rest both shoulders on the earth

carol, don't you think they're being dramatic?

they're gonna fly me all the way to perth

and the satellite won't reach ya

but I'm hoping that you know

all this open road's not worth it

if we don't get to make it home

I'm sorry that i wrecked our car

was hoping that you wouldn't notice

but the road is strewn with playing cards

looks like they're gonna have to tow it

and I think I've broken both my arms

the road is closed in both directions

there must have been some kind of god

who gets to say who needs protecting

must have been some kind of god

looking in the rear view mirror
