Too Hot to Try

Sun got up before I did

Beat me to everything, as usual

Glass is sweating on the shelf

Ice is doing all the work itself

Shoes by the door, they can stay

Nothing's urgent anyway

Phone went quiet around noon

Didn't chase it, didn't move

Radio's on, nobody's listening

Including the guy on the radio

I'm not lazy, I'm just cool

Weather made the rules

Too hot to try, too hot to try

Cold glass on my neck, let the day go by

Nobody's keeping score, nobody's asking why

Too hot to try — yeah, so am I

Not today, not today

Me and the ice, we melt the same

Not today, not today

Both of us taking our time

Cat found the one cool corner first

Smug about it, obviously

Even the shade's got nothing to do

Watched the ice go down to nothing

Took its time, and no one blamed it

Used to fill the quiet up with noise

Now I let it sit there

Sweat dries slow, the light goes gold

Whole day gone and no one's called

I'm not going looking either

I'm not lazy, I'm just cool

Weather made the rules

Too hot to try, too hot to try

Cold glass on my neck, let the day go by

Nobody's keeping score, nobody's asking why

Too hot to try — and so are you

Not today, not today

Me and the ice, we melt the same

Not today, not today

Both of us taking our time

Too hot to try
