A laudator stood

Erect upon the broad and sunlit road

Sunlight spilled across the roadside fields of golden guise

And danced within the bright wells of his laughing eyes

He waved to the birds in flight a gesture free and bold

And spoke aloud: Oh world so wondrous to behold

I shall embrace all beings praise every single thing

Then he arose and chased a newborn butterfly upon the wing

Across the golden meadow light and swift and fleet

A limping dog with eyes that held some hidden sore defeat

Just barked and barked and barked a relentless ragged sound

As the laudator wandered further unbound

The dog uncannily with human voice did speak

Directly at a tattered scarecrow weathered worn and meek:

Say brother that fellow we know wouldn't you agree

The most cynical soul he was in days now flown and free

No no no the scarecrow creaked a rustling dry reply

We never knew a dog your memory must lie

Hush now the dog then whispered a chilling undertone

Let me sleep twenty years more beneath this burial stone

I wanted so to say these very words aloud

But in the end I swallowed them amidst the silent shroud

For everyone is lauded be it right or be it wrong

I wanted so to say these very words aloud

But in the end I swallowed them amongst the silent throng

For everyone is lauded great or small their song

Except for the dissipating dust that has been swept along

I wanted so to say these very words aloud

But in the end I swallowed them where silence does belong

For everyone is lauded ere their final setting sun

Except for the dissipating dust their fleeting race is run

Except for the dissipating dust beneath the moon and sun

Except for the dissipating dust when all is said and done

Dissipating dust
