专辑《The Tonal Garment of the Word》 简介
The small group of guests assembled in Kenneth Mills' formal music room was greeted with the following improbable, yet highly charged, situation: The composer Tim Janis, seated on the floor amongst audio equipment, had brought tapes of his compositions to accompany Dr. Mills' poems, as yet unseen by Tim. For his part, the poet Kenneth Mills, seated on a chair with microphone and earphones ready, had never heard the music to which he was about to read! A few bars were played through earphones. The poet said,"That's enough. Let's begin!" The poem"The Sound of a Star" was selected and performed with great intensity. Then came the playback of music and voice together. The guests gasped! The dynamics, rhythm, and phrasing of the music and the poetry fit together as if they had always existed that way; when the poem concluded, so did the music! An inexplicable and magical happening was unfolding before our very ears and eyes.We sat from 9:00 p.m. until 2:40 a.m., spellbound as the poet took on each new piece of music with the assurance of a highwire dancer. There were no rehearsals, no second takes. Indeed, on four occasions Kenneth Mills put aside his book and poemed expemporaneously, right on the spot. In actuality, all of the poems were originally given this way, spontaneously, and only later transcribed into print. The living oral tradition!"Tim Janis appeared; a presence was felt,Then his melodies were heardAnd evoked the Spoken Word. And on a Timeless MomentThis Tonal Garment was woven,From 9:00 p.m. to 2:40 a.m.The dance concluded with the jubilant Amen!"Such a serendipitous happening has been caught on this CD for you. May you find that the unrehearsed and original offerings open your heart to the meaning of the Word."- Kenneth G. Mills"A most unusual album! The set was recorded in one take, in front of a live audience, with some of the poems being created spontaneously. What's amazing is that no listener would ever guess that this was not meticulously composed and reworked. Cosmic compositions such as"The Sound of a Star,""Do You Realize?" or"The Creek" are love poems of a different sort, expressing a love of life and a sense of wonder at this world."- The New Age Voice
