One thing the musicians in The New Direction Band have done over the years is “Follow Directions”. They have listened to their fans and followed their hearts playing some of the happiest music on earth. Co-leader Jim Raczkowski on drums, along with co-leader and 2011 Buffalo Music Hall of Fame inductee Ron Urbanczyk on concertina, Bob Krupka on trumpet, Frank Zeczak on clarinet, sax and trumpet and Bill Barnas on piano and keyboard bass, fiddle and stand up bass bring over 225 years of polka experience to this CD. Combined, they have recorded 30 full length recordings and have played in over 30 different polka bands that spanned the polka spectrum from eastern style to honky and honky push over the last 50 years. There is one constant with this band; they all love to play the old country style of polka music which is affectionately known as “Honky Style”. All this becomes evident in the unique sound of this band which is captured on this CD. Adding six original songs with eleven traditional songs provides the path to lead this band in a New Direction. The directions are simple, have fun, and that’s what we do, how many CD’s feature vocals by everyone in the band? When you listen, you will hear the reason, The New Direction Band is becoming one of Buffalo’s more popular polka bands and with this CD, we hope to expand our popularity nationally.
