“Out From Under the Covers” is an apt description of the current stage in my musical life. For many years I played cover tunes in variety bands to try and make sure my family was able to keep eating. (A nasty habit they developed at an alarming rate!) Also, at least some cover tunes have been featured on all of my previous albums. This is the first album released by me that is 100% original material. I am finally Out From Under the Covers!Over the last couple of years I have written many (Like three dozen) acoustic/alternative rock songs that just didn’t seem to fit with the album I was working on at the time. The songs were great by themselves but they never 'went' with my other projects. Out From Under the Covers is 13 of those songs. All parts were played, sung, recorded, and produced by Dave Morehouse. (That’s me!) It has been a monumental effort but the results are everything that I wanted. These songs have been played live and “tested” on live audiences. All have been received well and people have pestered me as to when they would be available as an album. This album is a response to that prodding. These 13 songs are my faves from among those tunes which received the most positive audience feedback over the last couple of years. The trumpets make upthe 'hook' for the song. After describing all thethings that can't be done the most powerful ofstatements"I Can Hold You" provides resolution tothe song. This is a personal fave of mine and that'swhy it sits on the pole position for the album.Sometime Special (3:36) A song about aperson's inability to tell someone else how they feelabout them. Listen carefully for the cardboard boxwhich is played by an old set of drum brushes.I Fell Into Your Eyes (3:35) This is a rockin'love ballad based on one of humankind's greatestweaknesses. The eyes truly are windows to ourvery souls.Only You (4:25) A slow ballad with a mixture ofnylon strung classical and distorted electric guitars.For me, this one was the most fun to record. Itharkens back to a day when I cranked the amp andlet her rip playing fills betwixt the vocal lines.I'm Comin' Home (4:05) This song has beenbest received by live audiences and is oftenrequested"across the bandstand". My four noteharmonica skills are at the forefront of thisrecording. The heavily effected Gibson SG (Choruspedals rock!) keeps the rhythm going throughout.Love At First Sight (4:05) Piano and acousticguitar combine to form a background for thesaddest of events. Love at first sight which turnsinto an unrealised yearning.Do Me (3:45) Heavy synths and wailing harmoniesemphasize the hapless plight of the youngrunaway. This isn't a smile over breakfast tune.Crazy (5:07) Another particular fave of mine off thisalbum. I love the chorus for this song. The choruswas written in 1997 but I never liked the rest of thesong. Over the next ten years I wrote three differentmelodies and four different sets of lyrics to thissong. What you hear on the album is the only one Iwas ever happy with. I am glad I stuck it out.It Still Hurts (4:19) Another chorus that waswritten long ago. I changed the song entirely andkicked it up several notches. This one taps out atabout 145 beats per minute so put your crazylegson for this one.Please Come Back (3:31) A tune about aproblem that every relationship encounters sooneror later. One person is waiting up late for the otherto get home. I may have done too much personalresearch for this song prior to writing it. If the vocalssound a little too whiny it's because they weremeant to be that way!Let's Go To Milwaukee (3:20) Comic relief forthe album done in a style well suited for audienceparticipation. I'll say no more........What The Fire's For (3:24) Two people who areon the rebound find each other and discover all thatthey need. A variety of instruments and a mutedvocal help to get the message across to the listener.Harley Song (My Harley Davidson) (1:51) Asimple and straight ahead ballad about a couple'slove for their ride.
