The band spent several months in the studio working on this album. Some of the tracks fit the Celtic rock genre with ease. Wild Rover is a sped up version of the old drinking song and Fire in the Belly is a set of reels with the speedy fiddling of Kari Bethke. Originals such as American Folk Song and Scum of America have a definite Shane MacGowan influence where Last Night Last, A Faint Crackling Sound, and King of Undead branch out into a more original folk rock sound more reminiscent of the Decemberists. West Pacific has a happy-go-lucky feel that feels more at home in the Appalachians. The album has a few wild cards such as 69 Cadillac that harkens to Nick Cave, Strawberry Blonde which has influences from the Afro Celt Sound System, Cold Days and Throwing Away have the sound of bitter ballads. It's an album that takes you on a ride of the Kissers' Irish influence, versatile musical ability, and songwriting that varies from simple country to complex rock.
